A Viewer Writes: Crime In Salisbury

Dear Joe,

Everyone who lives in the Camden Avenue/North and Middle Blvds area should be aware that serious crimes are being committed and they should be very careful at night. Tonight I received a text message from a close friend who told me to be careful at night because her sister's boyfriend was held up at gunpoint almost across the street from my house. Not long after he met a young guy who had been beaten and robbed at gunpoint just 20 minutes before her boyfriend was held up. The criminals were hiding in the bushes and jumped him.

This is so concerning as a resident of the area. No one wants to fear for their safety in their own neighborhood. I just thought I would pass the information on so residents are aware. Tonight, for the first time I put my handgun next to my bed.

The crime in Salisbury is out of control and it is a damn shame what Salisbury is turning into. There are good people and good families in this area of Camden and the citizen's deserve a safe, crime free way of life especially for what we pay to live in this once nice historic area of the city.

  1. Couldn't agree more it's a damn shame how salisbury is going down the crap per relatively quickly

  2. I'm sorry to bring this up, but the area is crawling with illegal immigrants.
Could that have anything to do with it?

  3. its no coincidence that the higher the minority population in an area, the higher the crime rate. If that is racism - well so be it. The truth hurts doesnt it?

  4. Time to put cops back on the Streets Walking.

  8. Our Hispanic population is growing and our Chinese. The black population isn't really growing at all, I'm an homeowner on the Westside and I see them leave and I ask them we they are moving to and they say down south, and eventually the home gets boarded up and just sits there and we use to be a street of homeowners now it's only 3 of us left, I wish someone would gentrify salisbury I'll rather see more Caucasians then my own race.

  9. Wake up people, crime numbers are not being reported accurately. Listen to your mayor, crime is down in the city. Until the real numbers are uncovered and citizens demand answers from the chief and mayor, nothing will change. What is it going to take, a major tragedy?

  10. I had this theory that popped into my head a few days ago. I was thinking about all the neighborhoods that are supposedly "Gun Free Zones" or "Drug Free Zones"(at least according to the street signs) and was curious as how just how much crime happens on those areas. My theory is that MORE crime happens in those areas then anywhere else, not sure how I would disprove or prove that theory especially since crime is under-reported or not reported at all. Just something to think about. Plus if we were allowed to conceal carry guns like Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma, them we more than likely would see crime drop around here. Remember crooks usually take the path of lease resistance and that usually involves the weakest people.

  11. Has anyone every actually had a problem with Hispanics in this town?

They seem pretty cool from my experience. Bunch of white fright going on here.

  12. Good thing they passed the 4-2 law in that neighborhood. Got those pesky college kids out and let families move in. Unfortunately you can have 10 ppl in a house if they are related. Don't remember college kids committing armed robbery, selling crack, turning tricks, and assaulting people. Those noise violations are looking great now

  14. You need to ban together. Start a neighborhood watch. Groups of no less that six. Armed with bats, tire irons, knives, and yes a couple firearms. Evil is only thwarted by a determined and serious show of force. If you sit on your a$$ and wait for the police to do it...you'll be waiting a long time..take back your homes or surrender like a coward. Either way make a decision.

  15. Ugh. A couple of reasons that I drive from west Ocean City to Salisbury is Giant Foods and the Greek Pita Place. I'm so sorry to hear this is going on. I will make sure I am out of there very early but sadly the residents are the ones that have to live with this.

  19. I work with a man who lives in the Camden area and he said over half the crime there is never reported. I think this is the trend of the whole city but our phoney mayor wants you to think crime is down. Jim and Jake, what a joke.

  21. The crime in Salisbury ?
You guys just don't get it , it's all over the country.
It's going to get worse , much worse.
    Do the simple math :
( no religion X no ethics X no cops X crooked law + Obama = crime)
Solution = buy more ammo + food =you will be the cops of the near future.

  22. Didn't we just see a chart here showing 998 calls for service PER DAY? But the SPD only posts 125 of the mildest ones...

  23. Part of the problem is the oversupply of "for profit" low income housing. As long as there is an incentive to rent out houses rather than sell them as homes, the inhabitants have little incentive to treat their communities with respect.

Limiting the number of occupants, to no more than the home was designed for, is another crucial step in getting this problem cleaned up.

Strict limits on the number of Section 8 certified houses in a given area would help prevent areas from reaching "critical mass" and going full ghetto,

  24. What do expect when u have a queer 4 a mayor. The local yocal Shariff who reminds u of Eddie from the show the Monsters. The city chief of police who should go back 2 New York and have the lead role in Law & Order. Hey , but the crime in the bury r at an all time low. This area is much worse than the streets in Detroit,Baltimore & New York all combined.

You must be a slum lord.

These weren't the families that were intended on living in these homes.

    1. No I lived on Hazel from 2000-2004. It wasn't great then, but the city wanted to blame the students. I just find it amusing that the uptight people a decade ago got the college kids out and it backfired on them.
The slumlords still have the houses, they just rent them to large families

I happen to ride by their rentals on Church and Priscilla Streets and you can tell when pay day is because the get drunk and the beer 24 pak cartons are all over the yards.

  27. I had someone break into my car on the East Side of Salisbury and I reported it about a week ago. The officer really didn't want to make a report out of it, but I insisted he did. He then said he was going to write a report of suspicion and keep it open for a short period of time. If I didn't call them with any other information then it would just go away. There you have it. The reason that crime is down in Salisbury. Yes my vehicle was broke into and all they did was show up and give me a case number. It's not even reported as a crime, just "Suspicion" and then it goes away like it never happened. What happened to detectives and crime solvers. They are F***ing with the numbers to make it look like there is no crime. They don't even take fingerprints anymore. WTF!! They all should go to jail over this. In my book this is Fraud and Falsifying documents.

  28. As a female living on the south side of town, I like to stop by WaWa for gas and coffee, but all I see there are homeless with their backpacks hanging around the doors. You can hardly go in the store without being asked for money. That is the daytime situation. At night there is a different crowd of loiterers and it is plain scary and I no longer will even stop there at dark.....very unsettling.

  29. FYI... The boyfriend said he was attacked by 2 black males with firearms, not Hispanics. Never had any issues with Hispanics in this area of Camden. This block has more families and homeowners than other blocks in the Camden area. A lot of elderly people are still living in this area and they are basically defenseless to these crimes. There are college kids, who tend to be easy targets as well. Main point is what is the mayor and police chief doing to keep residents safe? I don't see a big police presence in this neighborhood and if we citizens take matters into our own hands to protect ourselves I am sure we will be prosecuted and it turned around on us. I for one will take that chance and protect myself. So glad I have a firearm but I hope and pray I never have to use it!

  32. Slumlords are the problem. They don't care who they rent to. And did someone here say cheap rent? Where, pray, might that be. There's nothing for less than 600 a month that I know of. And NO the college kids weren't better. While you didn't fear for your life, you couldn't sleep, protect your property, beer cans everywhere, (still) and had more than a lot of noise. At times you couldn't get down the street for the partying. (2 years ago a few hundred were reported in the streets, but if wasn't a thousand, I 'd be surprised.) At the very least, they need to be made to CLEAN UP THE MESS THEY LEAVE BEHIND!

  33. From what I see as soon as the Hispanics move in the neighborhood starts to look better.
They take pride in their homes and it shows.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Depends on the class of Hispanics, just as any ethnicity. Some are good people and neighbors, but some trash the houses and yards and create a nuisance.

    ReplyDelete
  35. They haven't tried to rob the right person yet -- someone carrying a handgun.
    Whoops. My bad.
Your "leaders" and the police would rather YOU get shot, beaten to death, or raped rather than ALLOW (God, I hate that word --when did we start letting them decide which RIGHTS given to us by GOD they would kindly and generously let us use??) anyone to protect themselves and their family.
How many times in the last five years have the police intervened in a hold-up, or stopped a robbery, or interrupted a rape?
    Reports.
    That's what they do best.
Protecting myself and my family is MY job, MY right, and I won't let anyone who needs 30 rounds to drop a criminal tell me I can't carry a gun. Maybe THEY should stop carrying one....
Try robbing me if you want some statistics. And there are MILLIONS of "we, the people" who feel the same way.
Get "your guy" Hogan to let FREE PEOPLE exercise their rights, which were here LONG BEFORE any of these slimy wanna-be Nazi Masters came along.
Keep cheering as your neighborhood is left defenseless by "your guy" and people who couldn't care less about whether or not your daughter is raped in the shrubbery in front of your house.
Or arm yourself and don't think you need to ask PERMISSION from ANYONE.

  38. Salisbury PD must increase pay, benefits etc and attract & keep more officers. I am saddened by what is happening to MY Salisbury. Md needs to lighten up on issuing CCW permits & let the citizens fight back. Need to eliminate some of the thugs.

  39. Well for the record I have not heard of a Hispanic doing anything more then driving drunk or putting a Mustang sticker on a Camaro. I never did get that lol

So call it like it is #1 males commit 86% of the crime in Da'Bury. Jimmy is spending all his time lately being the Rain Bow Warrior. This guy spends more time talking about the prostitutes at the end of his street then the real crime ??? Maybe he got beat up by one. Jimmy you have armed gangs running the streets of Salisbury.

You had a crap load of unsolved murders. You and Barb gave those to the state police. Smart move we all know where those cases where going. NO where One has to ask what is wrong with Salisbury P.D. Well folks it starts at the top. The Chief has to take responsibility for what happens on her watch. I think she has the tools to get this done but she works for a Mayor that spends all his time throwing hissy fits and looking at himself in the mirror.

I don't know what model Jimmy is using to reduce crime but it aint working. Jimmy let the Chief and her men cut loose. Time to fight crime.

    ReplyDelete
  40. And there are more than enough police here, their too busy chasing kids on skateboards and bikes. The chief needs to change her priorities here.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree a lot of police time is spent patrolling shopping centers for skateboarders and bikes.

  42. Breaking into someone's car is a crime. It doesn't matter what kind of crime is reported, it should be taken seriously and the police should try to solve it. It's like they just expect these petty crimes to happen, so there is no need to investigate. If you catch and prosecute the criminals when they are doing small stuff, maybe it won't escalate into bigger crimes later. They get more brazen when they think they've gotten away with something. Maybe they should have the newest cops take on the small cases and you don't get promoted until you've solved some of that first. Work your way up the ladder by actually doing police work.

  43. Rentals first. Crime follows. Simple as that.

  44. no, police spend most of their time responding to pointless, non crime calls called in by stupid citizens. Not their fault people waste their time.
