  3. The actual of numbers of homes in all stages of foreclosure, not just ones who have received a notice of possible foreclisure, is far higher. If you count the homes that are in any stage of the foreclosure process, as well as end-stage "Real Estate Owned" (have reverted back to, and owned by, the bank), I would conservatively estimate it to be more like 1 in 100 on average, some areas (around here) even higher. We have a business maintaining these homes so they don't get overgrown and run down, after the occupants have abandoned them, so we have a good idea of the extent of the problem.

It is heartbreaking work, but someone has to do it, to keep the vacant houses from turning into an eyesore (if it isn't already) and preventing them from deteriorating and driving down neighborhood property values.

  6. Most likely I will be adding another to that count, I'm baling out of da 'bury and if I can't get at least what I owe on it, I'm just going! I know someone who started foreclosure 3 years ago and is still in that house, the bank would rather know that it is at least occupied and not stripped of copper wire and whatever else thieves can take. Cheers!
