Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday offered the latest in a series of Republican alternatives to Obamacare ahead of a Supreme Court ruling which could effectively gut the law, according to The Hill.
The Texas senator's bill, known as the Health Care Choices Act, would allow people to purchase health insurance across state lines, a longstanding Republican goal.
It would also repeal Title I of Obamacare, which would undo much of the law, including the mandate to buy insurance, along with insurance marketplaces and subsidies to enable people to afford Obamacare insurance.
Republicans are looking to show that they have a plan ready if the Supreme Court strikes down subsidies for around 7.5 million people in the 36 states using federally-run marketplaces. On Wednesday, the court will hear arguments in King vs. Burwell, the case challenging subsidies through the federal exchanges.
"The administration has done absolutely nothing to prepare for an upcoming Supreme Court decision that could leave millions of Americans unable to afford insurance thanks to this failed law," Cruz said.
