Michelle Obama mixed her message of education for girls with one of empowerment for black women, declaring 'Black girls rock!' at the annual awards show of the same name.
The first lady wasn't one of the honorees Saturday night but was the most heralded participant at the 5th annual event. It honored Jada Pinkett Smith, Erykah Badu, Cicely Tyson, Ava DuVernay, Nadia Lopez and Helene Gayle.
Obama told the audience, which included many young black girls, to ignore voices that suggested that they were 'not good enough.'

ReplyDeleteYes, I'm a white woman so can I now say "white women rock"?
After the long battle to defeat segregation it seems that segregation is being encouraged once again. Some will never be satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI believe she made a VERY racist remark!!
ReplyDeleteWho has problems? Sounds like one supposedly edumcated witch is very racist!!
Seems they should be doing less rocking. Cant take care of the babies they already have
ReplyDeleteUnemployment, babies out of wedlock, on welfare for decades. Yeah they rock. Thier hips, their babies, and the system.
ReplyDeleteAin't that a racist remark?
ReplyDeleteAmerican Women Rock !!!! Michelle is so racist. I know she has a tough job acting poor and all.
ReplyDeleteBlack people are the only people I've ever seen that need to be constantly told how unique they are, how they "rock", how special they are, and how important and smart they are.
ReplyDeleteThen reality sets in.....dropout rate, teen pregnancy, literacy rates, single parent families, lifetime dependency, incarceration rates, etc..
No amount of "you're such a beautiful person!" is EVER going to get someone a job, nor will it persuade any girls to delay pregnancy until at least 16.
Change cultural values.
You won't need any of that self-esteem propaganda.
