This is a prime example, see below, as to why it is so difficult to deal with the Wicomico County Board of Education.
On February 10th I sent an email to Lorenzo Hughes and Cathy Townsend (his boss) at the Transportation department. The message was regarding schools not being late with icy roads. And I asked for an explanation as to how Delmar school district worked; High School in Delaware and Elementary school in Wicomico County, Maryland.
This is the response I get today. Cathy Townsend deleted my message and never read it.
Thanks for posting.

HMM resspect goes both ways???
ReplyDeleteWhen the redistricting fiasco was occurring, as I did not want my son being moved to wihi from parkside ... I was emailing everyone on the board. I did not get any replies until I emailed bob culver with the boe board copied. It was then that I started to hear back from everyone and their uncle.
ReplyDeleteWho is Lorenzo Hughes? Do you mean Desmond Hughes the Director of Transportation, husband of former County Council Member and now State Delegate Sheree Sample Hughes? The guy that got the job because of his race and who he is married to?
ReplyDeleteThe name probably was a mistake. Desmond has a twin brother named Lorenzo.
ReplyDelete12:06 you are 100% on track of how he obtained that position because it was not because of any great knowledge and experience he has.
Correct. He was a principal in the county. Wi-Hi maybe?
DeletePart of Race to the Top money given to any county depends on responsiveness to citizens' input and building bridges from school to community. Report it.
ReplyDeleteIt is rumored that the former head of transportation retired but was rehired on a contractual basis to work in that department several days a week. I'm hoping that wasn't necessary.
ReplyDeleteSimply put the BOE has absolutely nothing to do with the Delmar Middle and High School.
ReplyDeleteThey are in Sussex County in case you don't know and have their own school board, Shawn Brittingham is the President.
You all run Desmond Hughes down? Let me tell you for years Desmond is the only person in that transportation department who knows whats going on. He got the job because he earned it and he's a dam good man to work for any day.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!!!!! He rightfully earned that position and does a great job and guess what......he knows how to treat ALL people.
DeleteDesmond is a good guy and his wife is very dedicated to doing a good job.
ReplyDeleteThe point of the post was that public input was deleted without having been opened. Anyone surprised by that must have just moved to this county. Just let them want you to solicit public support for their agenda, however, and they could not communicate faster. I'm not saying more candidly, but I am saying faster.
ReplyDeleteMr. Hughes has an advanced degree and the relevant experiences for his position. Quit hating and spreading lies.
ReplyDeleteIF the former head of transportation was hired back on a contractual basis, that should have been a huge assist to Mr. Hughes. Why would that have been necessary? Does anyone know if that rumor is true?
ReplyDeleteTrue. He has been working on the redistricting.
DeleteThis lady is worthless, she doesn't respond to most of her emails.
ReplyDeleteHow do you expect BOE members to respect and respond to your questions when you don't show them any respect? When you constantly bash and disrespect you can't expect them to respond to you.
ReplyDeleteLorenzo used to come on WJZ TV every morning before I went to school.I remember him well.

ReplyDeleteBy that reasoning, principals and teachers will have no more dealings with students, parents or members of the public who show any signs of irritation with or ask questions about their decisions. Just ignore them and refuse to communicate. If it's OK for the bosses to treat the public like this, let's all do it.
Most folks don't have a program that lets them know their emails have been deleted without being opened. That's a plus for the sender but it eliminates the popular board of ed. excuse of blaming a computer glitch.
