The Preble County Prosecuting Attorney's Office on Wednesday formally filed two charges of endangering children against Chastity Hall, 35, according to a press release from the prosecutor's office and the Preble County Sheriff's Office. The charges are third-degree felonies.
At about 4 AM Saturday, firefighters arrived at the home, which was fully engulfed, and firefighters had no indication anyone was inside the home because no one was around and no cars were in the driveway.
With the roof of the home about to collapse and the floor having fallen through already, firefighters could not immediately enter the home.
Later in the morning, the bodies of Malea Bradburn, 10, and her brother, Malachi Bradburn, 9, were found in the house's basement.
Preble County authorities say Hall had left her children alone at the residence for an extended period of time and was not at home when the fire occurred.
A former boyfriend of Hall's also has been charged in relation to the case.
Arcadio B. Escobar, 34, faces one count of trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, a fourth-degree felony.
According to the release, investigators determined Escobar was at the residence on the night of the fire, but authorities say there is insufficient evidence to justify criminal charges in connection with the fire or in connection with the children's deaths.
