NYC police commissioner blames cops for ‘many of the worst parts of black history’

New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton told a predominantly black crowd Tuesday that police have made some of the worst parts of black history possible, including slavery.

Speaking at a Black History Month event in Queens, Mr. Bratton said that while police have played crucial role in maintaining order during civil unrest, “many of the worst parts of black history would have been impossible without police, too,” DNAinfo reported.

“Slavery, our country’s original sin, sat on a foundation codified by laws and enforced by police, by slave catchers,” he added.

  1. Just to educate the black public , Africa has been , and still is the largest slave trade in the world. It's been that way for thousands of years, and it will remain the same.
Please go to Africa and help build another pyramid .

  4. Notice to white public. You are a foreigner as well. The Indians & Mexicans were here centuries before the colonists arrived and slaughtered them. Where are u gonnna go?

  5. There were Mexicans in Maryland before the colonists? Learn something new everyday. Must be a product of the public school system.

  6. Well you don't learn much about other races. You learn half truths. Mexicans were mostly out west from Texas to California. Indians were everywhere on the east coast. Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, all Indian names. White folks are arrested at an alarming rate in the US AT 69% of felonies but don't go to jail. Blacks only 26% but make up 50% of the prison population. The justice system is flawless for some.

  7. Google Fox news. This is a real drug dealer that cops choose to ignore. It's more profitable for the entire police, judicial, and prison systems to lock up the least among drug offenders. Tax dollars are allotted by head count.

The owner of a Brooklyn factory that produced maraschino cherries fatally shot himself in the head after authorities discovered a huge marijuana-growing operation on the premises during a raid Tuesday.

Arthur Mondella, 57, became visibly nervous as officials inspected suspicious shelving in a storage room at Dell’s Maraschino Cherries in Red Hook, the New York Post reports. The company was founded by the man's grandfather in 1948 and is a supplier to TGI Fridays, Chick-fil-A and Caesar's.

  8. Nice "bait & switch" - 1:10 - You're good at this kind of crap, aren't you? You would make a good rabble 'rowser (if you're not already.)

  9. They weren't Mexicans. Until 1821 they were Spanish colonists just as we were English colonists until 1781. Also Texas was part of Mexico for only 14 years and California was part of Mexico for only 27 years.

    1. Thanks for setting the record straight. When did colonists kill them and take their land?

  10. 1:10 said "...Worcester, Somerset, all Indian names."

Obviously you are a product of the public school system and you didn't bother to pay attention while you were there. Worcester and Somerset are towns in England.

Before you make any more comments go back to school. Or at least use Google before inserting foot in mouth.

  11. 3:11. The article was about police was it not. Arthur was a 3rd generation owner that escaped Nixon's war on drugs. Laughable. I avoid all police. I've experienced that police brutality in NJ while visiting relatives. No broken bones, some bruises. We were on our way to a VFW for a birthday party. We made a left on a one way street & quickly realized the sign was vandalized. Made a right behind the grocery store on the corner & then a left in the right direction, and damn. Police with a headlight out, undercover black car. 3 rolled up with guns & Billy clubs out yelling get out d f ing car. Trashed the car, 1 slammed me on the hood a couple times and put that chokehold on me while the other kept hitting me in the side with the club. Constant threats of lock up. We had no drugs. Finally, this old white man ran out on the porch fumbling his glasses and shined a spot light on us while yelling at the cops to leave us alone, we did nothing wrong. Fortunately, a call came over the radio. They left. I wished I had taken a moment to thank that man but we crossed the white line & it was only a matter of time before the white thugs smelled us out. Yes, there are color lines not to be crossed in the city. Racial profiling. Never, will I trust a police and I don't care what color he/she. If I'm broke down on the highway, all cops please don't stop. I'll take my chances with a serial killer. I'm for real. I've had 3 interactions with city cops. None were good, all were white, and I have no arrests. Never will I step foot in Bayonne, NJ again. Cops don't need to tell me twice. Ruthless and above the law. I speak from experience. I fully understand. Nothings changed and it's worst. Black men gunned down everyday. I've seen a drunk white man curse, spit, ,& name call police and they just say go home. Really? No Billy club , gun drawn. Just go home. If that's equality, keep your words to yourself.

  12. Glad you notice. least I know some aren't just kids saying racial crap, like go back to Africa. White people commit crimes but I don't slur the whole race. It's these actions that prevents blacks from voting republicican and increases racial tensions. This speech by the police was refreshing & it shows he is making an honest effort to improve police relations in the inner city. The comments by anonymous people is inappropriate. Republican whine every week about black votes, yet your members routinely show ignorance & disrespect. Truth. Voting republican is a vote to starve all black women & children on welfare, lock up all black males for tax dollars, and wage war against all blacks globally.
Change that perception & you get my vote. As far as Ben Carson, I'm not impressed at all.
