Mississippi police officers required to learn Spanish or face discipline

The Jackson, Miss. Police Department is now requiring its officers to take a Spanish language course four times a year as a condition of employment.

“The purpose of this program is for our officers to learn basic commands,” police Chief Lee Vance told Fox News Latino. “We’re not looking to make anybody fluent.”

  1. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
    Since they can't arrest them, they can at least give them directions to the nearest 'Opportunity Center' where they can sign up for all the benefits they came here for.

I worked in a plant where the majority of employees were from the middle east and quite a few would act like they don't speak or understand English which was always an issue when I was trying to do my job, but low an behold if i would cuss at one all of a sudden they knew how to speak English pretty good. Since then I have come to believe a lot more know English but just want to change our culture to suit them!
