JUST IN: NBC Suspends Brian Williams for 6 Months Without Pay

Brian Williams, the embattled NBC news anchor whose credibility plummeted after he acknowledged exaggerating his role in a helicopter incident in Iraq, was suspended for six months without pay, the network said Tuesday night.

Lester Holt will continue to substitute for Mr. Williams now, but finding a permanent successor will be a major problem for the network, which was not anticipating having to replace the anchor of its “Nightly News” broadcast for some time. In December, Mr. Williams signed a new five-year contract reported to be worth $10 million a year.

“This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position,” Deborah Turness, the president of NBC News, said in an internal memo.

  1. He should have been fired. Even if he returns, no one will ever be able to believe anything he reports as fact. What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

  2. This was not an inadvertent mistake. It's a huge, self-serving lie. He should have been fired for cause.

  5. Believe it or not, some people actually don't make rash decisions that are ill informed.
The network is obviously leaving its options open while they figure it out.

  7. He is damaged goods. I doubt if he will ever return to the evening news. He will be lucky to get a spot on CNN or some TV station in the middle of no where like WBOC.
Maybe he will be sent to MSNBC.

  10. there are too many ways to check the facts these days for someone with 1/2 a brain to peddle their lies. I just don't know what he was thinking. NBC was just as bad because they had to have known this years ago. So....if we cannot trust Brian.... can we trust the NBC news either? Wake up call.
