  6. 9:32 - Yes!

Community college is very affordable now; it's been a basic tenet from the inception of the concept.

A high percentage of current enrollees have to take a variety of remedial classes before actually tackling their college courses.

If they had paid attention in HS they would have mastered these basics and would shorten the time they require in the CC.

We already provide a free public education up through grade 12.

Free across-the-board CC would just provide more time to loaf and goof off before entering the world of work.

Many CC students are industrious and motivated. Earning core credits at a modest cost before transferring to a four year school is smart. Or earning an Associate's that provides entry to a career job is also smart. There are a variety of financial aid programs currently in place.

OweBama's proposal would inevitably lead to the same lack of integrity in grading and assessment that HS diplomas now carry.

  7. There is a secret agenda to this so called "Free" college. They will be required to teach by government standards a curriculum that is PC. No more free thought, or exploring an idea, you will learn to be a good citizen for the new world order.

  8. Homelessness & the above living condition began in the 1930's locally as near as my research has determined. One cannot find a person old enough locally who recalls when it started, but the dynamic shifted from camps full of the less fortunate to what we have today. The #s have increased, but the per capita percentage is almost identical to the #s in the 30's.

  9. 13th Grade? Sorry but your idea of community college is incorrect. For many students the community college is a great place to start. A student planning to transfer to a 4 year college receives a quality education at an affordable price. The community college encourages success at any level or ability. And yes, even offers honors level college credit. This is the strength of the community college-- offering a start to be successful at any level or stage of life.

  10. Well said 1:08. A student right out of high school can also mature greatly in two years of community college. Too many students who are 17 or 18 years old go straight to large schools and get caught up in the party culture, and all the binge drinking and drug issues that come along with it. A little bit of growing up, and understanding what you can handle and how important it is to look out for yourself, can make a life changing difference in a young, impressionable, and often foolish or naive kid.
