MIKULSKI ASKS LABINAL TO RESCIND ITS DECISION TO CLOSE SALISBURY PLANT

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today asked Safran North America President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Lengyel to rescind its decision to close its Salisbury Labinal plant.

“I want families who rely on Labinal for their paychecks and economic security to know that I’m on their side,” Senator Mikulski said. “I was shocked by Labinal’s decision to close its Salisbury plant. I urge Mr. Lengyel to rescind that decision. I will never stop fighting for jobs in Maryland.”

The text of the letter can be found below:

January 15, 2015
Mr. Peter Lengyel
President and Chief Executive Officer
Safran North America
2300 Clarendon Blvd, Suite 607
Arlington, VA 22201
Dear Mr. Lengyel:
I am very distressed and surprised by the news of the closure of the Labinal facility in Salisbury, Maryland.  I urge you to rescind this decision.
This news came as a complete surprise to me, the employees, and the Salisbury community.  Your decision to close the Salisbury plant will cause great economic and emotional strain to the skilled workforce and the community.  It is reported that as many as 500 workers could lose their jobs. Households with multiple family members working at Labinal will be particularly hard hit by the layoffs.
As a strong supporter of the work done at the Labinal facility, I have fought tirelessly each year to ensure that federal funds were made available for the procurement of Chinook Helicopters so Labinal had the resources needed to do its job.  Most recently, while serving as the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee during the last Congress, I secured $994 million to procure 32 Chinooks.
What can we do to get you to rescind this decision? I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator

  3. Her letter offers even more 'bribes' to get them to stay.

Babs needs to write a letter to the soon to be former governor - telling him what an idiot he has been for allowing the business climate to fall to the bottom of the list....won't happen though - that would torpedo Marty's chances in 2016.....

More importantly, it shows that the contracts don't have any 'clawback' provisions to get the money back.....we need to see which politicians have investments in these companies - then we'll be able to publicize the cronyism in action!

  4. Mikulski, you've got no pull outside of Maryland. I'm sure Mr. Lengyel has never even heard of you.

  11. 10:07 "LIARTON ireton must have PAID her for that letter."

Fixed that for you. That's the only way to get anything, even a response, from these politicians, on BOTH sides of the aisle.

  12. The only reason Barbara Mikulski sent a letter to Labinal is because she saw all of the adverse publicity on Salisbury News.

Now WBOC, WMDT, DT, are trying to ride on the coattail of Salisbury News.

    GREAT JOB JOE!
