I personally know of a little boy who was pulled out of a pond by his pet Great Pyrenees. Sadly he suffered traumatic brain injury and is wheelchair bound. She saw his brothers frantically trying to go into the water to get the boy, and she jumped in and pulled him out and laid next to him even growling and snarling at the first responders until her family calmed her down. She had never growled at anyone before. She had never more then stepped a foot in the water before either but swam breaking ice to get to the boy.
