This week, events around the country will highlight the importance of parental control of education as part of National School Choice Week. This year’s events should attract more attention than prior years because of the growing rebellion against centralized education sparked by the federal Common Core curriculum.
The movement against Common Core has the potential to change American education. However, anti-Common Core activists must not be misled by politicians promoting “reforms” of the federal education bureaucracy, or legislation ending Common Core while leaving all other federal education programs intact. The only way to protect American children from future Common Core-like programs is to permanently padlock the Department of Education.

ReplyDeleteBring our kids educations back home, where it belongs.
I gotta few other issues with what our children are being taught and more importantly, not taught today, too.
Dear readers,
ReplyDeleteAs I have constantly and consistently advocated against the common core, I will share yet again the power that parents truly have. Having worked at both the local level and MSDE, I can assure you that the most powerful tool parents have is to submit a simple letter (form letters can be found for MD at www.unitedoptout.com) should significant numbers of parents simply copy, print and sign these letters, there is no recourse for public school administrators and the central office but to comply. The esteemed (sic) Dr Fredricksen et al would be hard pressed indeed, and the ramifications for him (should better than just 30% of parents requiring this) would be quite severe from the state. Not only do parents have a very simple tool to exempt their children from this farce, but also have an equally powerful tool to remove him from office. Given that meetings are taking place with regard to an elected school board, let me assure you that while I believe this would be effective, the faster and more assured route to his removal would be for parents in this school system to revolt by sending such correspondence en masse right now. Further, Mr . Culver cannot do everything and cannot single handedly fix the issues with the school system. Frankly, he has shown us his strength and parents need to share their resolve as well by engaging in this manner.
