Laurel, DE – Troopers are investigating a home invasion that occurred east of Laurel early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:05 a.m. Thursday December 11, 2014 after a 9-1-1 call was placed from a resident living in a house, located in the 8000 block of Bacons Road, reporting that someone had broken into the dwelling and robbed the 78-year-old homeowner. Preliminary investigation revealed the elderly male victim had been asleep in his bedroom when he was abruptly woken up by an unknown male striking him in the head with an unknown object and then tying him up. At the same time, another male suspect was reportedly rummaging through the victims personal belongings looking for money. Once they found the cash, the two suspects fled the house in an unknown direction.
The 78-year-old male was slightly injured during the altercation and was able to walk out to the living room where one of his male tenants was sitting and inform him of what happened. The victim refused medical treatment on-scene.
There is no physical or clothing description of any of the male suspects. Detectives have determined through preliminary interviews and investigation that this was not a random act and believe the victim was targeted in the home invasion.
