The New Howard County Executive Just Repealed Ken Ulman's Ban On Sugary Drink Sales

Just days after Ken Ulman departed as Howard County executive, his ban on sugary drinks is gone too.

New Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman on Thursday signed an executive order repealing Ulman's December 2012 ban on the sale of sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda on county property and at county-sponsored events. The sale of sugary drinks has been prohibited in places such as libraries and parks since Ulman implemented the ban, also via executive order.

The ban has been unpopular among many county employees and visitors to county-owned facilities. Ulman in 2012 told The Baltimore Sun the ban was about targeting obesity and helping people make healthier choices.
