State Police Detectives Arrest Georgetown Woman on Felony Theft Charges

Milton - The Delaware State Police Financial Crimes Unit has arrested a Georgetown woman after a six month investigation into an elderly couples financial records reveals she stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from them.

The investigation into this incident began back in May of 2014 when the nephew of William (92) and Marion Pepper (90) became the Durable Power of Attorney for William, and the executor of Marion's estate after her death. At that time, William, who is now deceased, was placed in a nursing home and the nephew began reviewing their financial records. Upon noticing numerous discrepancies, he responded to Troop 4 in Georgetown to report the issues.

The investigation revealed that while William and Marion Pepper were living in Milton,Dawn Greene, 45 of Georgetown, was employed as their caretaker due to their health issues and had been there since June of 2012. The financial records showed that on one occasion, a check for more than $5,500.00 was written out to Dawn Greene for medical supplies, when in fact, all supplies were covered under the victim's health insurance. Other checks written as far back as August of 2013 ranged from as low as $550.00 to $5,800.00, which was supposed to be used to remodel and repair the victim's kitchen but was never started or completed. In November of 2013, a check was written out to Greene in the amount of $21,000.00 which was used by her to purchase of a 2014 Ford Fusion. An audit of the victim's account showed that Greene had defrauded them of more than $466,000.00 over nine month period.

Dawn Greene was contacted at her residence on Tuesday December 23, 2014 and taken into custody. She was transported back to Troop 4 where she was charged with two counts of Exploit Resources Greater than $50,000.00 of an Infirmed Adult, two counts of Theft Where Property Value is $100,000.00 or More, and Conspiracy 2nd. She was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women's' Correctional Institution on $81,000.00 secured bond.
