Convicted With No Evidence by an All-White Jury, Black Community Leader Rev. Edward Pinkney Faces Life in Prison

The fight in Benton Harbor is a war, it’s not a conflict. It’s a war over whether America will have prosperity and democracy, or live in poverty under the heel of open corporate rule. - Rev. Edward Pinkney

As reports escalate of police assaults and murder of unarmed black men for "suspected" crimes, a jury trial certainly sounds like welcome justice.

Not so for many in Michigan, where a 66-year-old black activist, Rev. Edward Pinkney, convicted of felony election fraud by an all-white jury, faces a life sentence, amid accusations of trumped-up charges and no direct evidence of wrongdoing.

When an all-white jury is chosen to try a prominent black community leader of an impoverished city with a 90 percent black population, when the powers that be have numerous reasons to want him discredited, when the evidence is entirely lacking and the punishment is draconian, there is ample cause to suspect another egregious breach of justice - one as blatant as refusing to indict the police who killed an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, and choked a father of six to death in Staten Island.

  1. So the defendant's lawyer allowed an all-white jury to be chosen without objection?
    How is that their fault?

  2. Bull Crap !!!!!!!!!! One broke the law period. The other two situations the public called for help. In the shooting of a minor with a replica hand gun, the public called 911. What, they are all criminals as well I guess. The PEOPLE called for a police officer no one could have known what color the officer would be that day. The PEOPLE did not care they just wanted the police. A young man with a gun at a park full of children. The sad fact is the child when ordered to drop the gun pulled it from his waist band. Only the child and God know why he did this. The officer at the scene made a split second decision that will surely haunt him the rest of his life.

The Brown case has holes on both sides. Will we ever know the whole truth. I do not think so but again a WHITE man called into the predominately Black neighborhood to protect them. He was there I will give him that. Did Black America let him help. I do not know the truthful answer. I do know that officer did not get out of bed that day and say I will shoot a child in the head in broad daylight among dozens of people. No just does not make sense I do not care what color you are.

Can I ask Black America would we be talking today if Wilson had been Black. The answer is no without a doubt a resounding no. An act of criminality has been made into a race issue by a Black society afraid to talk about how we feel let down by Ohbama and other rich politicians. They have to take this fear and anxiety out on someone. Where did preparations go. Where did the one acre of land and a cow go ? The lie of a politician set America back seventy years. Hell we have to blame someone because we are still on welfare. We have to blame someone because Black on Black violence is at an epidemic. We have to blame someone because our children are not graduating. We have to blame someone our babies are having babies. When do we stop blaming everyone else. I as you when.

Black America It is so easy to see the truth. Look into the mirror tonight what you will see is the root cause of why we are failing as a people. No one owes us anything. We owe ourselves to stop passing the buck and rise up!

Racism will never die. It was here before Jesus and will be here until he returns. It is not solely a White problem. No no I hear it daily spewed from the mouths of children that never lived in a segregated society. They learned it from some lackey that never tried to make it. I for one and ashamed of where we are going as a society.

America is a beautiful country. We all need to clean up our own backyards. Then just maybe we can help a neighbor clean theirs.

  3. On December 15, Rev. Edward Pinkney, a leader in the struggle for social and economic justice for the residents of Benton Harbor, Michigan, was sentenced to serve up to 10 years in prison, on the basis of thin circumstantial evidence that a few dates had been altered on a recall petition against the city's mayor, James Hightower. The recall was prompted by the mayor's continued support for tax evasion by the Whirlpool Corporation, the Fortune 500 company and $19 billion global appliance manufacturer, headquartered in Benton Harbor.
