Grandfather says boy warned robbers before shooting
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities say a 14-year-old boy shot and killed a man who was trying to break into his home in eastern Mecklenburg County.
Police say the shooting happened after 5 p.m. Tuesday at a home near Mint Hill.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Isai Robert Delcid, 18, was fatally shot while he and his brother Carlos Delcid, 20, were trying to break into the rear of a home.
Investigators said the incident took place shortly before 5:15 p.m. They said the 14-year-old and his grandmother were in the home when two men tried breaking in.
The teen reportedly warned the men to stop and told them he had a gun. When they continued to try to break in, he fired through the door, killing the 18-year-old suspect.
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested a short time later.
The Observer reported that the 14-year-old’s father was shot to death six years ago during an apparent robbery at the auto repair shop he operated in east Charlotte, according to the grandfather.
