Let's Help Send the Limousine Liberals Back Home

Wicomico's taxpayers will soon get a chance to express themselves at the polls on November 4th.  Here in Wicomico we have all witnessed a massive exodus of businesses, a significant reduction in our local area workforce.  Taxes have skyrocketed, fees have been imposed - (flush tax), drivers licenses & tolls have all increased and now it is time for us to take the matter to the polls.

Whose hands are dirty:  Our current slate of elected Democratic Delegates have certainly had their dirty hands on the steering wheel - let us examine some of the legislation that has been thwarted or promulgated to the detriment of Wicomico's businesses and citizens.

1.   House Bill 966 - Elected County School Board
HB 966 was to allow the people to decide who would represent them on local school issues.  The issue was to be put on a public referendum.  Certainly - Norman Conway's inaction on the issue was a deterrent to allowing free public choice.

2.  House Bill 1522 - Hotel Rental Tax and User Fees Increase
This legislation was sponsored by Norman Conway and has resulted in an increase in the hotel rental tax rate in Wicomico County - (5% to 6%).  But that was not the only increase that Wicomico residents have suffered - buried in the legislation were also provisions to increase ticket prices by imposing surcharges on events being held at the civic center.  This represents another 'blow' to our citizens pocketbooks.

3.  House Bill 1412 - Education - Maintenance of Effort (Repeal or override of the County's Revenue Cap)
This piece of legislation strikes at the very heart of Wicomico's residents - as more than 70% of the voters passed the grass roots effort to put a halt to run-a-way real estate taxes.

At SBYnews our hope is that there are still enough 'William Wallaces' out there who will educate themselves on the issues - and correct the current political imbalance.  The battle cry has been sounded - and the choice will soon be yours to determine your destiny.

  2. They will not be getting my vote. We have asked and asked for these taxes and fees not to be imposed on an already weakened economy. Our pleas have obviously fallen on deaf ears. Will be voting for those who listen and will act!

  3. Sometimes SBYNEWS just knocks the ball right out of the park, and this is one of those occasions. I like it.

  4. Lets see how many Republicans come Out and vote, this is IT PEOPLE LAST CHANCE TO SAVE AMERICA,otherwise this country is DONE.

  5. I must admit, the article expresses a valid point. Conway has been there far to long anyway. He has become the poster boy of a career politician. It is time for some change.

  6. There are a lot of similarities in the characters of William Wallace verses Longshank(Conway). Hopefully this time Wallace will prevail.

  7. PLEASE SAVE AMERICA GET OUT AND VOTE REPUBLICAN.

  8. Given the present state of affairs, I would not be surprised if none of the democrats running are elected. As much as I hate to admit it, I am a registered democrat.

  10. Conway is hoping that he can hide and people will forget what he has done. I don't believe he is going to win this time around. I've been wrong before, but somehow I believe even the liberal democratic wing will tally against Mr. Conway as things are that bad.

  12. This seems to be one of the few medias that tracks the fingerprints of the culprits. This is great investigative reporting. Thanks!

  13. 9:24 - I sure hope so. Ole Norm has been there so long that even I can't remember when he was first elected and I'm 70.

  15. I think this information is going to resonate with the majority of the voting public. At least I hope so.

  16. My understanding is that Norm wrote a confusing addendum to the bill which is why it was not brought up as a referendum action.

This is not inaction - he intentionally impeded the public's ability to decide. Much worse than inaction!

Norm's got some brains (that he keeps well fed), I know he can write legislation that can benefit special groups - so he could write legislation that could benefit the general public...he chooses not to!

  17. To 9:55 Poster - resonate

My real estate tax bill is overdue and I really don't have it to give. I noticed my tax bill has gone up again this year despite my property evaluation going down. Also, I noticed the Bay Restoration fee has doubled - $60.00. What in the hell do these politicians think they are doing up there!

  18. If people take him to task based on this record, he'll self-destruct. I will not be voting for him this go around.

  19. My question is, if we elect a republican, will they repeal some of these taxes and fees that were imposed on us?

In previous elections when a republican got back in office, they promised to, but didn't.

Instead they put in place fees. Bob Ehrlich did this. Others who claimed to be conservative republicans, turned out to be RINOS.

I am very skeptical to say the least. I am starting to get tired of all the lies and broken promises. It used to be a mans work was his bond. I don't believe this is the case anymore. Honor and integrity don't seem to be the rule of the day in politics. It's lies and bashing of those running.

It's no wonder good men and women no longer want to run for public office. They will base you for anything you did or said in you life.

I am in the same boat, my tax bill jumped over 500 dollars more, and I don't have the money to pay it.
The bill is due in December so there will be no Christmas this year.

  21. 9:24 - I agree. There are a lot of similarities. Great photo of Braveheart, and Conway to.

  22. To 10:09 - that said 'they will base you for anything you did or said'

My response: At least I am hoping so anyway. If that is the case, this will be the end for Conway.

  24. You are all foolish Conway is going nowhere the dumbazz people of the shore will vote him right back in office. There are so many that have been sucker punched by Conway they actually believe be has done a good job for the shore that they keep voting for him. Most know he is a powerful man and just keep sweeping the facts under the carpet hoping for better from him and all they are getting is a good screwing.

  25. Special interest has ruined this country. Delegate Conway was on the public dole as a paid educator while simultaneously drawing a salary from the Md Legislature. Now if that is not unscrupulous I don't know what is. The proper thing for him to have done is recuse himself from anything affiliated with the BOE legislation or issues. Instead, he lobbies for them.

  26. This article helps to articulate the feelings of most red-blooded eastern shore men & women. Honestly, I am very mad at all of the democrats.

  27. 11:24 - It says that Wicomico's residents have become subservient those assigned to represent them. We have basically become slaves.

  28. Mayor Anderton has never raised taxes in Delmar. While Salisbury and Fruitland continue to accept the "constant yield" which raises your property tax rate, Anderton rejects it every year and lives within the town's budget. He has a track record. And good track record. Believe me, if he had a bad track record the unions and PACs would be running commercials. Instead they are not mentioning Anderton in hopes that people not familiar with him will vote for Norm.

But Anderton says he has knocked on thousands of doors. And I hear that he clearly won the debate. So Norm is probably going to lose. He can't run on his record.

  30. It is a shame for the people to have to put up with these kinds of underhanded tactics. Conway should resign. For crying out loud, hasn't he been there too long anyway.

  31. This is so funny, yet so true. Great investigative work about what our elected official has been doing behind the scenes.

  32. I hope he doesn't win again. It's time for a change.

  33. guess what? If you dont vote for him he wont win. Then maybe we can have a year without another tax increase

  34. 10:26 - I agree, I just hope everyone else is looking at this site verses the other liberal medias. The only real credible go to source is Sbynews. Although I am seeing WMDT starting to move more to the right.

    You are the idiot!!!!!
I am a registered lifelong Republican. What I am saying is, I've seen too many so called republicans say one thing, and then vote with the democrats.

Rebecca Taylor White was a good example of this, along with Q johnson.

I plan to vote Republican, but as a rule, I am disgusted with both parties. They don't seem to represent us, and neither party is listening to us.
They get into office with good intentions, and then the power of the office seems to corrupt them after they have been in office for more than one term.

Right now I am struggling to make ends meet. Don't know how I am going to come up with the money to pay my tax bill this year. So don't assume just because I am discussed I will vote democrat.

There are plenty of A**holes in both parties. I think you are one of them!!!!!

That is one of the reasons Ehrlich didn't win office. He would not walk the talk - and it was really the Republicans that jumped ship. Ehrlich acted more like a Democrat - especially after he signed off on the flush tax.

In essence - Ehrlich was toxic to the Republican party. Owe - you'll find a few staunch Ehrlich supporters - but they have blinders on their eyes.
