If any parents in the Salisbury area consider their neighborhood unsafe for Trick or Treating, they're welcome to join the Salisbury Jaycees downtown for our Treat Street Event. As a matter of fact, reports of local drug dealing, dangerous predators, and tampered candy were the reason that we started this project. It takes place from 6-8pm on the plaza, downtown.
ReplyDeleteMembers of our chapter, and sponsoring businesses in our community have worked hard to bring the town a safe event for all children 11 and under.
We'll have the downtown plaza secured, make use of trusted volunteers from our chapter, sponsoring local businesses, and Salisbury University. And the Jaycees are controlling the candy from the store shelves to the children's pail or bag.
Treat Street has turned into a major event for Salisbury. We plan for ~600 children, and when Sandy came through in 2012, we were even able to accommodate several hundred additional visitors from Somerset County - providing the first "normal" childhood activity that many kids were able to experience since their home was damaged or destroyed. Treat Street has earned your local Jaycee chapter recognition for the top small community project in the nation by the United States Junior Chamber.
There is no cost to attend. Just dress up in your non-scary, crowd appropriate costume and arrive at 6pm for registration.
