The Worcester County Commissioners will conduct a public hearing Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Worcester County Government Center in Snow Hill to receive public comment on the 2014 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update.
All interested citizens are encouraged to attend the hearing and express their views on these matters. Copies of the draft 2014 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update are available for viewing on the County website at www.co.worcester.md.us/EmergencyServices/emerservindex prior to the hearing.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan, originally adopted in 2006, is designed to evaluate and provide proactive strategies to potential natural hazards that endanger the lives and properties of area residents and visitors. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) mandate that each local jurisdiction prepare and adopt a hazard mitigation plan. The Town of Ocean City, which adopts its own plan, is not included in the draft 2014 Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan is only a planning document and does not obligate the County to fund projects included therein.
