Even before Common Core. The system isn't set to recognize talents and skills that don't fit the curriculum. Many great teachers do, but in general students are processed through requirements without much outside the "everyone's treated the same" box thinking.
autistic children do not stand a chance unless one person has faith in them and the time to find them and where they are locked in. If the child is lucky enough to have that one person they just might be the person to cure cancer. Autistic children can be brilliant but the system does not care.
All children need the personal interaction of a teacher who is unencumbered by rigid standards brought upon by those who are not involved in the childrens' eduction.
