ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement on the launch of efforts to bring the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic games to the National Capital Region:
“I’m excited to join Gov. McAuliffe and Mayor Gray to support the National Capital Region’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Here in Maryland, we’re focused on doing the things that work to create jobs, spur innovation and expand opportunity. As one of the greatest sporting events our world has ever known, the Olympics is one of the best diplomatic tools we have to transcend the walls that divide us and provide a spark of hope for the next generation. Hosting the Olympics will foster a lasting sports, tourism and cultural legacy for our nation while also highlighting Maryland and the Capital Region’s seamless coordination, strength, diversity, and vibrancy on the ultimate global stage.”
Object to this insanity. It will cast us billions in taxes.
ReplyDeleteDid it cross their minds that maybe the residents of Maryland may not want to spend our money on this?
ReplyDeletePut it to referendum. Let the people speak instead of those who speak in their place.
ReplyDeleteYeah, look at all of the other places that have hosted the Olympics. Do you see any demonstrable sparks of hope through sport sponsorship there?
ReplyDeleteThink hard and try to name ten places that have hosted the summer or winter games, then tell us how much better things are afterwards.
