Burger King faces backlash as it confirms plans to move HQ to Canada with purchase of coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons
Burger King has agreed to buy Canadian coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons to create the world's third-largest quick service restaurant group, with sales of about $23billion.
The corporate headquarters of the new company will be in Canada, which may also help Burger King lower its taxes.
Such tax inversions have been criticized by President Barack Obama and Congress because they mean a loss of tax revenue for the U.S. government.

Can't blame them one bit.
ReplyDeleteAmerika is a terrible place to live and do business
I agree with the boycott. If they don't want to incorporate here and contribute to the welfare of our communities both federal and state, they don't belong here. That goes for all corporations! Australia has this policy. We need this here.
ReplyDeleteI'll go more often! Can't blame anyone for wanting to make a profit. We pay enough taxes!
ReplyDeleteWhy boycott??...our government has run them out of town with all the high Omaba Taxes...they don't care...if Burger King can improve their pocketbook..go for it...Does this mean we shall go ahead and boycott every other big company here in the US...think about it....where does all f our clothes, toys, computer gadgets and so on MADE AND SHIPPED FROM???....that's right..Boscoves,JC Penny's,etc etc..go across seas to get forgein countries to make our products pennies on the dollar...the product comes back to the US and JACK UP THE PRICE so we pay more and the companies pay less....We need to push congress to make the companies open factories on US soil and creat jobs and stop supporting these forgein countries...
ReplyDeletei think i will eat there more
ReplyDeleteIf the fn USA would lower there tax rate all the business would come back to America then again who would want to work since half the country is on ENTITLMENTS???
ReplyDeleteHold on BK makeS the $$$ IN america but wants more profit in the executive pockets?
ReplyDeleteMcDonald's here i come.......
ReplyDeleteThis will be a reverse boycott where more people than ever before will go there! Myself included.
ReplyDeleteIf we were to hold all corporations accountable for this issue there would be very few places in this country to shop I suspect. I would be interested in a full list of corporations that have already done this very thing and are profiting from it. If you are in business to make money....wouldn't you do whatever it takes to keep your business in the black (profitable). I cannot say I blame them for attempting to make a profit but I would rather support corporations that are totally 100% US based. We as consumers will purchase something from another country if there is nothing in this country that can compete. That is why you have seen so many foreign cars in this country. I can purchase a hamburger that compares to BK anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI can see why they are doing this but it means less money for the goverment and more money for the investors. We all know the government will never cut their own spending so they in turn will raise our taxes.
ReplyDeleteYup then MORE entitlements equals mor ibama voters.
DeleteBk is not the first or last major corporation to practice in tax inversion.. major pharmaceutical Companies have been doing the same for years.. but I Don't hear any boycott talks about viagra
ReplyDeleteEveryone should eat at BK once per week. If you can't swallow the food, then just buy a drink. Help them out. Show them you hate this evil government.
ReplyDeleteBoycotters aren't too bright They don't understand that it's them paying exorbinant taxes, through inflated prices, to let the fat cats in Washington spend money earned by the sweat of the brow of customers for their own greed as well as supporting those who refuse to do for themselves.
ReplyDeleteDoes it matter? I thought they were UK owned anyway...
ReplyDeleteI think its time to buy some bk stock!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't blame them at all. Our tax laws are sooooo screwed up...supporting special interests to get votes.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually go there - but I wouldn't stop because of this if I did.
This is completely legal and a good business decision.
When our elected government gets to the point where we won't continue to find brain tumors during colonoscopies, the people might start to benefit.
Food and service isn't very good. The restaurants here in Salisbury are nasty and the bathrooms are filthy. Haven't been back in over a year. I have no problem boycotting them.
ReplyDeleteNo different than why I'm leaving the over taxed state of Md for De. Owemalley has taxed everything but the hair on my body and his loser Lt Gov. probably soon to be Gov. is just as bad or worse. Thank you Owemalley and Brown for making my decision an easy one.
ReplyDeleteGuess we should see their prices fall with all that tax savings. I am sure they want to share that with their customers.
ReplyDeleteAmericans work hard for their paycheck that is taxed by the government. We all eat out at burger king. And, in many states the purchase of a burger and fries is taxed. The employees who serve us the food is pay minimum wages barely making enough to run a household. Now, burger king want to move to Canada to avoid paying taxes. I say, we need to STOP eating at burger king. I have already have. Burger king will not maintain it's riches off my back.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if BK was owned by foreigners - they wouldn't have to pay taxes here and then just keep changing owners to other relatives like the 7-11's do...
ReplyDeleteI am going to eat there more often now, I HATE paying taxes to feed, clothe and school illegal aliens!
ReplyDeleteIf the idiot politicans both R and D would quit wasting money and cut taxes the corps would all come back.
