When the Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. (DPI) announced in April that this past June’s “Delmarva Chicken Festival” would be its last, the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) Board voted to explore continuing this Delmarva tradition under the SACC banner.
In an August 5, 2014 letter to the SACC, DPI Executive Director Bill Satterfield wrote “We wish you well in blending a type of chicken festival into other community activities in Wicomico County and acknowledge with appreciation the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s involvement in many years with the Delmarva Chicken Festival.”
Ernie Colburn, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber stated, “We are pleased as well as honored to move forward on sponsoring a Delmarva Chicken Festival and commend DPI for its 65 years of event service to the Delmarva Peninsula.” Colburn also stated the Chamber has filed the necessary paperwork to protect the name “Delmarva Chicken Festival” under the umbrella of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce “Tourism Network” will be planning future activities in cooperation with Wicomico County Tourism, Parks, and Recreation.

ReplyDeleteWhen the Delmarva economy is so dependant on chickens and there is no festival to celebrate it there is something wrong. Good job COC

ReplyDeleteNow that the SACC is doing all the touristy stuff that used to belong to Parks and Rec, how about we cut that department's funding?
