The state of Maryland has taken a huge chunk out of sharp premium hikes proposed earlier this year by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
CareFirst will only be able to raise rates for 2015 individual health insurance plans by averages of between 9.8 percent and 16.2 percent, the Maryland Insurance Administration said Friday. CareFirst, the region's dominant insurer, had requested rate hikes ranging between 22.8 percent and 30.2 percent.
The insurance administration released premium rates approved for individual health insurance plans to be offered in the state with coverage starting Jan. 1. Insurers submitted requests to change rates earlier this year, which state actuaries then reviewed. Insurance Commissioner Therese Goldsmith also considered public comments and analyzed how premium changes will affect consumers before approving or modifying requested rates.

ReplyDeleteONLY?!?!?!?!
They raise the rates, people will drop the plans, easy as that.
ReplyDeleteDam. That eats up my 2% pay raise completely.
ReplyDeleteWhy do they need an increase when they just announced a rebate to most participants because they didn't spend 80% of premiums on patient care last year? Makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteThe fix has been in all along....the only reason the insurance companies signed on to obama care, was the promise of huge rate increases after the elections
