OCEAN CITY, MD — August 15, 2014 — While campaigning in Ocean City, Md. today, Gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan and running mate Boyd Rutherford accepted family members’ “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” and unceremoniously dumped buckets of ice water on their own heads. Hogan challenged his Democratic opponents, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and running mate Ken Ulman to accept the Ice Bucket Challenge within 24 hours.
According to Hogan, “Boyd and I were thrilled to participate in such fun way to draw attention to a very serious disease. We challenge not only our opponents to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge but also our supporters; it’s a great way show that when we come together we can do good and bring change to those in need.”
The Ice Bucket Challenge has become a viral video phenomenon as tens of thousands of Americans have dumped a bucket of ice water on their own heads and challenged others to do the same in support of the ALS Association.
In accepting the challenge Hogan and Rutherford also pledged to donate $100 each the ALS Association. Since July 29, the viral video campaign has raised millions from tens of thousands of Americans who participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
