ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A veteran who collapsed in an Albuquerque Veterans Affairs hospital cafeteria, 500 yards from the emergency room, died after waiting 30 minutes for an ambulance, officials confirmed Thursday.
Officials at the hospital said it took a half an hour for the ambulance to be dispatched and take the man from one building to the other, which is about a five minute walk.
VA spokeswoman Sonja Brown said Kirtland Air Force Medical Group personnel performed CPR until the ambulance arrived.

This subject right here makes me not proud to be an American. I can't even come up with the right descriptive word; it's not a shame, it's not a disgrace, it's not sick. Actually it is all of those and some more.
ReplyDeleteTo know, not just think, that we treat our veterans in such a manner. You mean to tell me somebody couldn't pick that man up and put him on a gurney and roll him to the emergency room. Oh, let me guess, that goes against procedure, and we might get sued.
AN AMERICAN VETERAN DIED 500 YARDS FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND NOBODY COULD GET HIM THERE.
This man fought for us. He put his life on the line for us. This independence day, when we honor our country's fight and independence, we are supposed to be honoring the fighters who fought the fight that won us our independence, right?
But we let a veteran die 500 yards from the emergency room. This hurts my heart as an American. That the American people would allow this to happen. And all the happy horseshit excuses do not matter. The man who put his life on the line for US. We took it from him.
I was going to go on with a comparison of how we would treat some other people, but I won't. It doesn't even matter. I think we are going to hell in a hand basket and this is just another example of why. My mind doesn't even want to accept what is going to happen to all of those veterans who have come back from Iraq and Afghanistan. We have gotten so good at saving them on the battlefield from injuries that years ago would have killed them, but what will happen to them when they get home. They are missing limbs, have half of their heads blown off, have major post traumatic stress, missing organs, etc, etc, etc.... These are major injuries which are going to need major health care. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO FOR THEM!!! ARE WE TREATING THEM THE SAME WAY?
That's just sickening. A lot of staff won't help at a car accident outside e r. Doors Due to security risks. It repulses me
