(PRINCESS ANNE, MD) – Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the attempted murder, robberies and assaults of two men in Somerset County last night.
Those charged are identified as Gregory I. Boyd, 17, of the 11000-block of Bratten Ave., and Carlos D. Briddell Jr., 18, of the 30000-block of Antioch Ave., both in Princess Anne, Md. Boyd and Briddell are each charged with attempted second degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment. Boyd is charged as an adult.
The victims are 26 and 27-year-old men who live in separate residences in the 11000-block of Brockett Square, Princess Anne. Both victims were transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment of what appeared to be blunt force trauma injuries.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the Princess Anne Barrack responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of the 11000-block of Brockett Square in Princess Anne. Upon arrival, troopers found the 27-year-old victim lying in the street with multiple injuries. Soon after, the other victim was located and it was determined he had also been assaulted and injured.
The preliminary Maryland State Police investigation by troopers from the Princess Anne Barrack and the Criminal Enforcement Division determined the 26-year-old victim had been unloading his vehicle when he was approached by a man holding a handgun and demanding money. A second suspect appeared and the victim said he had no money. He was then hit by both suspects, who used the pistol and their fists.
About five minutes later, the 27-year-old suspect confronted two males he saw looking inside his vehicle. One suspect held a gun on him and demanded money. He too said he had none and was assaulted by the suspects who used the pistol and their fists. When he was on the ground, a witness saw the suspect with the handgun fire it at the victim. The victim was not struck by the round.
The investigation by troopers developed evidence and information that led to the identity of the two suspects. Boyd was arrested overnight at a Princess Anne apartment complex. Briddell turned himself in at the Princess Anne Barrack about 8:00 a.m. today.
The investigation is continuing. Troopers believe others were with the two suspects, so additional arrests are possible.
Anyone with information about these attempted robberies and assaults is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Princess Anne Barrack at 443-260-3700. Callers may remain confidential.
