Wednesday afternoon, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement announced in a release that the fire boat’s operator, 62-year-old Edward Kalinowski, of Delaware City, was charged with one count of negligence by operating at excessive speed. Kalinowski also sustained a broken ankle in the accident.

ReplyDeleteThat first boat was one of those free boats like Salisbury got. Those clowns are just like Salisbury's Farmin. They have something that requires more knowledge and experience than they can handle. It's not like a canoe that you can just use a paddle to get around. These fire boats are very sophisticated and the average Joe Blow can't operate it unless they use it every day. What a shame.

DeleteExactly like the Salisbury Fire Departments boat except Salisbury's is 2 foot bigger. From the WBOC webpage:

Another difference is the fire boat was made in Canada and not New York. The office in New York is just a cover so that everyone will think their tax dollars are being spent in America and not Canada. This is another scam pulled over on American tax payers.

I saw Salisbury's fireboat one day, way out near the Whitehaven Ferry and they were at excessive speed. Hope they knew to slow down approaching the Ferry. Went by so fast I couldn't see if it was chief tub-o-lard at the helm.

ReplyDeleteThe fireboat was purchased with DHS/Economic Stimulus money. The builders are in Toronto, Canada. The company opened an office in Buffalo, NY, (just a sales office, not a fabrication plant) and snagged the contract from the Feds.
ReplyDeleteEnd result, Salisbury got a fireboat to replace the one that kept sinking at the dock, and increased its coverage requirements by roughly 1500 square miles (the whole Bay), Canadian economic stimulation was achieved, a couple of people got temp jobs in Buffalo, and DHS got a bit more waterway control.

The fireboat kept sinking because the firemen weren't checking it when they were supposed to. That again was poor leadership under Rick Hoppes. Joe you should post those pictures of the story you had posted.
Increasing its coverage requirements by roughly 1500 square miles is not the responsibility of the City of Salisbury tax payers.
If you think a few temp jobs in Buffalo is going to make me and others feel good then you are foolish. BTW since Buffalo "is just a sales office" and the boat was alrealdy sold then why would there be a could of jobs in Buffalo?
