Do people not have any common sense anymore? If you want to bring something to school for show-and-tell, bringing in a hand grenade is probably not a good idea.
The student, a 12-year-old boy, brought in the military relic during a show-and-tell for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
The school was immediately put in lockdown and a bomb squad was called in to examine the grenade. The boy's mother, Lisa Miguel, of Stratford, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment, and illegal possession of an explosive.
Miguel said the grenade was a gift from her father, a World War II veteran. She thought thought the grenade was a dud, but investigators said it still had the pin in it.

ReplyDeleteIn a case like this, where the threat was a possible "live" grenade, was putting the school in lock down really the wisest choice? I myself, would have preferred to be NOT LOCKED DOWN with an object capable of blowing up. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteWas it really live? Practice grenades do have the pin in place but no explosive or detonator inside.
ReplyDelete10:42, there are Homeland Security "Rules" that must be adhered to! They're right here in this book, dang it! To heck with student safety; if they don't follow the "rules" they could lose their jobs!
