The Veterans Affairs department has punished whistleblowers for years, The New York Times reported, citing interviews with current and former staff members and internal documents.
The federal Office of Special Counsel, which investigates whistleblower complaints, is examining 37 claims of retaliation by VA employees at facilities in 19 states, according to the newspaper.
The government watchdog has successfully called on the VA to drop the recent disciplinary action taken against three staff members who had spoken out about the systemic problems with the department.
Since the scandal erupted, hundreds of whistleblowers have come forward to report cases of extensive patient delays and fake scheduling to their union leaders, lawmakers, federal investigators, and a whistleblower advocacy group.

This goes beyond the VA level.
ReplyDeleteWe as a medical facility provided services to VA patients. We are provided VA authorizations to do so.
One female idiot at the VA mishandled a case and never provided us authorization for a year. She was rude and lied to us all the time. We were constantly on her azz about getting the auth. One day I lost my cool on the phone with this POS and she complained to her higher up.
Her higher up proceeded to email our corporate office to complain about me and made a whole bunch of crap up, trying to get me fired.
Didn't work.
See we often helped VA patients at a loss to our facility, with out an auth, for which we were not paid, because the VA was such a nightmare to deal with.
The joke and attitude of our company was .. oh man no, don't tell me I have to deal with the VA.
This was the way the VA did business outside of their walls.
I don't know how these POS people sleep at night. Ugly ugly place to work and or deal with.
Who treats vets like that..hang em .
