BALTIMORE – A United Methodist Church appeals panel has overturned the church's decision to defrock a pastor who presided over his son's same-sex wedding ceremony and said he would perform other gay marriages if asked.
A nine-person church appeals panel issued an opinion Tuesday reversing a lower church court decision.
The church suspended Frank Schaefer, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, last year for officiating his son's 2007 wedding. The church then defrocked Schaefer because he wouldn't promise never to preside over another gay ceremony.

ReplyDeleteThe bible is clear on the subject of homosexuality. It is sin. It is called an abomination in the bible and says both parties should be stoned to death.

But the whole sorry scenario speaks volumes about both the individual and the appeals panel, which supposedly represents the thinking of the institutional church for that denomination.
Rules are what he chooses to pursue, rather than biblical or the doctrine of that faith. And they endorse that behavior.
Small wonder it's easy to find a seat in their pews!
