Worcester County To Evaluate Excursion Train Trips
SNOW HILL — The County Commission agreed this week to finance a feasibility study that could lead to a Strasburg Railroad franchise coming to the shore. The railroad would feature excursion train trips between Berlin, Newark and Snow Hill.
A train tying together three parts of the county appealed to the commissioners who saw the potential for long-term tourism revenue far exceeding any start-up costs that would fall to Worcester.
“It would definitely be a feather in our cap to pull these guys in here,” said Commissioner Virgil Shockley. “This, to me, is one of those studies where we have to put in a little bit of money and hopefully get a lot and a lot of people. I’m all for this.” More
There was,or possibly still is a Halloween train ride in lower Delaware,but that was only during the month of October I think.This is thinking outside of the box at it's best.
The route starts (or ends) in Snow Hill, South of the river. It never crosses. It does cross the Purnell Pond just East of Snow Hill but otherwise, all dry land.
South of Snow Hill, the Right-of-Way seems to still exist all the way to Girdletree.
To the North, the line continues through Showell, Bishop, Selbyville and beyond.
Are you people crazy!! You want the Gov to spend you money financing this? If the idea is so brilliant than why not allow a private citizen to make their own private investment and give them some breathing room to make it a financial success? Keep the Gov out of your pockets people!
That sounds like a great idea.That will save us our routine trips to Lancaster.

ReplyDeleteThat rail line ends at Snow Hill. Pocomoke is on a separate line that runs south from Salisbury.

I think it would be cool to restore Marion Station as part of a historic route. I know its not feasible but still a cool concept.

ReplyDeleteIt's never gonna happen once the lack of real tourism dollars is realized. Good idea but to be honest wouldn't be a success.
