Tick Removal: A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions.
"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. "Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball.
Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
Heard this for years and its better if you use Dawn dishwashing soap!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!!
This is not universally recognized as a good idea. The constant irritation of the swabbing and soap can possibly cause the tick to barf the contents of their stomach into you. If they are full of bacteria, you've got a good chance of contracting Lyme disease, STARI, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and other nasty things.
ReplyDeleteGet tweezers. Grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. Use constant, gentle pressure to pull out the tick. Follow up with antibiotic ointment.
Delmarva is one of the worst hotspots in the country when it comes to Lyme. Do all that you can to protect yourself!
I find a propane torch works well. Then you can call in sick the next few days.
