O'Malley Signs Bill Banning Grain Alcohol

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has signed a measure banning the retail sale of alcohol that is 190-proof and stronger.

The new law signed Monday by the Democratic governor had strong backing from leaders of colleges and universities.

Jonathan Gibralter, president of Frostburg State University, says grain alcohol is seen as a cheap and reliable way to get drunk quickly. He says that makes it a popular option for students, who don't realize how intoxicated it can make them very quickly.

Just kidding - I know better...they couldn't be that intelligent!

Now moonshining will come back in the underground economy.....you'll be able to buy untaxed cigs and shine - probably at the same place!

  2. Isn't Frostburg 15 minutes from both PA and WV? That is going to be a very effective law!

These people are idiots. Of course the students know how fast it will get them drunk. That's the whole purpose of Mojo and Jungle Juice. We were drinking it in college 40 years ago as I'm sure they were drinking it in college 40 years before that.

  6. Every college in this state is only a hop skip and a jump from another state when grain is still sold. What a useless bunch of nothings who voted for this with all the bigger fish to fry.
Vote straight republican. The worst republican is far far better then ANY democrat and that is a fact!

I think most of us after having a few sessions with that, learned to be a bit more discerning.

  8. ok so COLLEGE STUDENTS aren't smart enough to know that 190 proof alcohol is gonna get you slammed harder and faster. God help us if they aren't smart enough to realize that then we are in DEEP CRAP!!!!

  9. Morons, of course they know how fast it can get you drunk, less alcohol for the same punch is cheaper! That's why we did it, and then one day we didn't drink it anymore..usually after one too many hangovers..had a "purple Jesus" myself a few times. It would take a LOT of beer to get you the same buzz as grain! I suppose they will have to do like the "sisters" on the Waltons, and brew some of the "recipe." lol

  10. The funny thing is this guy is a university president so he is supposed to be highly educated but he contradicts himself in the same sentence. "...grain alcohol is seen as a cheap and reliable way to get drunk quickly...don't realize how intoxicated it can make them very quickly."
This idiot should be fired he obviously isn't capable of coherent thought.
