The closest thing to this was Andromeda locally and we see how that went,I hope they are able to keep this top shelf as I am sure local bands would love a place to play at. I am no longer in the bar/music scene but I hope they can pull this off.
I do agree the property was given away, but at least they are doing something with it, ride around town and see so many empty buildings it will be nice to see one rehabbed down town, I am sure they will have a chunk of change into this.
Actually there was someone 12:24 willing to not only pay more but would have employed a dozen or so people paying more than double what minimum wage is and benefits, plus hiring a nightly security guard from a local company. It's a business that relies on government and utility contracts and is in high demand. Several jobs going on at any given time on delmarva and they needed a location in this area. They never realized the property was even for sale. They need places to store trucks and equipment. To say what you did say about people lined up is beyond ridiculous and quite frankly asinine and it's clear your are clueless. Maybe if the place had actually been listed and placed on multiple list others would have been interested as well. Next time know what you are talking about before opening your mouth. It would benefit you greatly.
When you put something out for the public to bid on and they are the only ones bidding how can 12:07 say any thing but it was a fair , open process. Did you bid on the building 12:07. Like i thought. Go do sometihng constructive. Save a flea
I watched the video. I am not impressed with anything that was mentioned in that clip. Still no clear idea of what is going to be done with the building. The city basically gave that building away for pennies on the dollar. What a shame.
12:48 there are many opportunities for your mystery client to locate in Downtown Salisbury. The City Charter cannot allow it to be listed as you have mentioned. Me thinks that you are the one who is clueless!!!!
Several years back Joe offered up $250,000 for that property, Cathcart, Dunn, Comegys and Shields agreed to not selling the property to Joe. If I were Joe, I'd file suit.
I do like this concept, similar venues are The Globe in Berlin, The Dover Opera House and Easton's The Avalon Theater. If we can get quality venues like they get, I'd go! Best of luck to the new owners!
They had no clue it was even up for sale 12:48. Anymore all towns, cities, counties, etc list properties with realtors. For some reason Salisbury officials are always behind the curve and this is why they continue to fall behind. They need to get with the times, because opportunity after opportunity is right under their noses and they miss out. We aren't even from the area, but it's clear armatures are at the wheel in Salisbury.
12:48 - It's really a shame that your contact with all the money, and an undefined superb concept that would employ a whole dozen people at $15/hour was so unaware the building was available because it wasn't multi-listed. Maybe the business was a farming operation for other ostriches keeping their heads buried and to be oblivious of what's going on.
Anonymous said... Right 12:07, there were so many people lined up, chomping at the bit, wanting to pay much, much more to put the property onto the tax roles.
May 22, 2014 at 12:24 PM
That is correct. Ask the owner of this blog idiot.
BTW this is not on the tax "rolls" and won't be. I wonder which Gilkerson or Ireton friend you are.

Advertised where? On the city's website? Where else? Who looks on any city website to see what property is for sale? This is the problem with you people and why Salisbury is the Arm Pit of the Eastern Shore and is continuing on it's downward spiral. Amateurs at the wheel.
Concept is great, but you know what, if there is no support and a bunch of naysayers, then you are absolutely correct its a pipe dream, how sad for you to be soooo negative. I was always told if you want to turn something around you gotta start somewhere
I am really tired of the element here with big mouths who do not even pay city taxes 12:07.. go home to Nanticoke Road Estate and leave us alone .. Joey Gilkerson is the future of Salisbury..not Wicomico County ..he pays more local taxes than the entire audience posting here.. It was not Ireton's property to "give away".. Besides that he works in an honorable business trying to better this town.. the rest of you trash... all you do is gripe about stuff you never ever have a voice about on Election Day
2:48 can you even define demographics? You are clueless to the notion and how "demographics" relate to it..
This will be a great thing for Salisbury The Parking Garage is adjacent Market Street the Ramada and Roadie Joe's will all benefit. I can foresee this being a venue that will attract acts like the Avalon Theater has on their Bill..
The only displacement will be the homeless who disappear after the Bathroom and free internet disappear when the Library closes (which should be on the Dept Of Health's plate.. not the Library.
ever been to downtown Easton after dark..that comment was just typical smallsbury racism at it's best

What about that school property in Willards that the Wicomico County Council gave to the Willards Volunteer Fire Company to build their new fire house. That didn't happen so the Willards Volunteer Fire Company has been selling off that free property at a profit off the tax payers. This is a true SCANDAL!!

Ah!! He said honorable. That truly caused me to shed a tear.
This pisses me off. Thank you Jim Ireton and Jake Day for giving that property away and wasting my hard earned tax dollars.

Then why didn't they submit a bid, 12:48?

ReplyDelete2:04 IT WAS ADVERTISED THREE TIMES TO BID. WHAT PART DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND???
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately an idea that is totally out of reach and unrealistic given the harsh reality of the demographics of the area.

Prove it.
You Gilkersons get really defensive don't you.
This property was a bait and switch deal. They got it dirt cheap and when it fails and no one is paying attention it will become rental housing.
ReplyDeleteMark my word!!

I see nothing but a positive for downtown.
ReplyDeleteSpending Daddy's money without a business plan is all this video shows, period.
ReplyDeleteRemove all parking meters, and the Downtown will become what all surrounding downtowns that don't have parking meters have become.
But, noooooo.....!
Doesn't count as daddy's money after you've turned it over yourself a couple of times
