Flooding problems shutter popular Linthicum restaurant

Nearby Patapsco River flood waters rise up to restaurant

LINTHICUM, Md.
—A popular Anne Arundel County restaurant is closing its doors after decades of flooding problems.

It has been a really good run for Snyder's Willow Grove in Linthicum. The bar, restaurant and lounge has been in the same spot on Hammonds Ferry Road since the early 1940s.

On the other side of the trees is the Patapsco River, which, when it rains hard enough, floods up to the restaurant, and after the last storm, the owners are throwing in the towel.

For Vernon Snyder, walking the flooded-out halls and dining rooms of his well-known restaurant is almost too overwhelming.

"It's just devastating, that's all. After we've been here 77 years and this is our seventh flood, and we just can't do it again," Snyder said.

  2. More like over development and too much impervious surfaces for water to be absorbed. Flooding occurrs after storms rather than tidal changes. Good try.

  6. Wow am I upset the original owner Bump Snyder had my fathers going away party in 1942 when he went in the Army. At that time it was a neighborhood bar across the street from the present location. I have been to the present location numerous times for family affairs and it was always wonderful. The Snyder family always remembered my family. And it was a great place. I am so sorry to hear of it's closing. FYI my mothers family has been here on the shore since 1632 so don't go on to me about being a come here I was born and raised here and this is a sad day. This place was wonderful
