For decades, it's probably the most troublesome question facing education: Why are results for U.S. public school students so mediocre, despite the billions of taxpayer dollars spent?
Andrew Coulson thinks he's got the answer: Because there is no discernible correlation between spending and outcomes.
"The takeaway from this study is that what we've done over the past 40 years hasn't worked," said Coulson, director of the Center For Educational Freedom at the CATO Institute. "The average performance change nationwide has declined 3 percent in mathematical and verbal skills. Moreover, there's been no relationship, effectively, between spending and academic outcomes."

Come on now...this report must be flawed. Just ask Freddie, our local politicians and the State BOE. I know I certainly expect all of the students at BHS and BMS to have significant improvement in their education after building these fine new schools. Isn't that what we were told? Education was "suffering" because these poor kids couldn't think with air conditioning. I know for certain if Wicomico County taxpayers would just "pony up" another "kazillion or two", all of our kids could go on to Ivy League schools. This report just has to be wrong!
ReplyDeleteOh they will show "significant improvement" 11:13, because the democrat solution is to lower the standards, thereby making it appear improvement "goals" are being made.
ReplyDeleteBoatloads of money spent on certain segments of the population who don't achieve and won't behave. No one ever asks why we're spending incredible amounts with no results.
ReplyDeletegoogle lower merion school district…very wealthy are a and spends tons of money on each student. They also have one of the highest ivy league acceptance rates. Compare that with somerest county.
