Study Finds Signs Of Brain Changes In Pot Smokers

A small study of casual marijuana smokers has turned up evidence of changes in the brain, a possible sign of trouble ahead, researchers say.

The young adults who volunteered for the study were not dependent on pot, nor did they show any marijuana-related problems.

"What we think we are seeing here is a very early indication of what becomes a problem later on with prolonged use," things like lack of focus and impaired judgment, said Dr. Hans Breiter, a study author.

Longer-term studies will be needed to see if such brain changes cause any symptoms over time, said Breiter, of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital.

  4. sure as heck scattered my brains. i was all for it beinf legal when i was smoking it. then the paranoia
set in. couldn't think straight for a long time. still have bad memories 40 years later.
should never be legal. worse yet, always left looking for a "better" high. that didn't happen from a few beers.

  7. 20 people is not enough to conclude anything. the age range is to small. And the reported "average" usage does not make sense. Was there a control? What were the conclusions? If this is an actual study it was poorly reported on. Is the change in brain cells beneficial or harmful. I think that any growth in the brain that increases density would be good.

This smacks of trying to support an agenda. And they are not trying very hard at that. seriously they couldn't find more than 20 users to observe? This sounds like a highschool science project and if you beleive this rubbish you are most certainly not paying attention to what is happening in Amercica.

  8. Poor science. If the feds had allowed researchers access to a steady supply over the past 40 years (they didn't), there would be much better analysis of behavioral changes.

  9. Scare tactics based on very poor research and analysis. Twenty subjects? Controls?
I guess they realized the "werewolf" story wasn't working. And the white girls being slaves to black musicians is so yesterday....
Lets try some "science"!! Let me know when they do that....
