Pollitt Gets Cold Reception At Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Once again, without public knowledge, County Executive Rick Pollitt met yesterday morning with Chamber of Commerce Members to discuss his waste energy plant at the landfill.

Wayne Strausburg expressed how the plant in PA wasn't working as it should because the Mayor cut the funding but John Cannon immediately stepped up to the plate and expressed to everyone there this this just isn't true. He explained how he has been investigating the plant and learned that the county had LOST their major haulers because they were charging too much money to bring trash there.

This is a MAJOR fear right here in Wicomico County. When Worcester County raised their tipping fees, Ocean City immediately worked out a deal to have their trash hauled away to a facility all the way in New Jersey.

Considering this plant is not proven, considering Sussex and Worcester and other Counties surrounding us could in fact start recycling and burning trash to compete with Wicomico County, this is a risk taxpayers cannot afford to take. I know some of you will say it will be built by an outside company but let's be real. If and when they fail, the taxpayers will have to pick up the tab, so don't go there.

You should know, (from this meeting) the Poultry Industry has already stated they will NOT participate by delivering manure to the Wicomico Landfill. They are NOT going to pay to get rid of it when there are so many other uses for it. One has to wonder IF we're going to see future state legislation forcing the chicken farmers to do just that?

More importantly, it's most interesting how Pollitt and Strausburg continue to keep these meetings from the general public as well as other meetings like last night at the Civic Center. Wicomico County needs an immediate change in leadership.

  1. Slick Rick is at it again -- to avoid doing tax to the max this year in order to balance his proposed budget, he's raiding the reserve fund for millions of dollars.

  2. It's over here in Wicomico. It will be 20 years - if then before we dig ourselves out of this depression. And that is what it is a depression. Stabilized my As---. The only thing stabilized are the upper echelon cohorts salaries at City Hall.

  6. Hey 2:32

I agree, he's taking a huge write-down on the fund balance. In other words, we are spending more than we are taking-in. We are headed to fiscal bankruptcy.

  10. As long as they can cut and bleed the taxpayers of more money, there is no need for cuts. No pun intended.
