Osprey Versus Maryland: The Nest Battle Live

WASHINGTON -- It seems to be a battle between the osprey and the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The federally protected birds have built a nest in front of a traffic camera at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge three different times in the last week. The nests are being built on a camera pole facing the Bay Bridge from the toll plaza.

The nest must be removed because it is blocking the traffic camera, says John Sales, MDTA spokesman. Also, the birds have been captured attacking the camera.

Traffic cameras, like the one on the Bay Bridge, are a form of public safety, Sales says. The cameras help MDTA stay informed about traffic issues and dangers on the roadways.

  1. Just take them out to Nevada so they can live live with the turtles that are in the way of cattle grazing. Bunch of morons.

  4. They have a dozen officers patrolling and monitoring traffic and air sensing instruments and gieger counters all around the bridge yet these camera's are a form of indispensable public safety?? The crap is getting deep, where are my boots?
These camera's are unconstitutional Government spying in the first place especially when they use the excuse of protecting the "collective" from the private citizen.
Americans NEED protection from the collective Government as the constitution was intended to do, not the other way around!
    Go Osprey!

  5. This could have been avoided by installing bird repelling devices around the camera. More drama.
Put a platform in the air near the Chesapeake and a raptor is going to build on it.
