A woman in New Jersey claims the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission is biased in favor of Christians after rejecting her request for a vanity plate that reflected her atheist beliefs while allowing plates that express a driver’s Christian identity.
According to the South Jersey Times, the plaintiff attempted to use the MVC’s website to obtain a personalized plate that reads “8theist,” but her request was allegedly rejected for being objectionable.
However, claims the woman, when she tried “Baptist” on the MVC site, she says it was not flagged by the system.
“There is nothing offensive about being atheist,” she tells the Times. “I should be able to express my sincerely held beliefs with a license plate just like everyone else.”

I did not realize that the state governments were still involved in religious affairs.I am a Christian,but this rejection surprises me.

Atheists and Gays seem to always use the courts when scorned by their own zeal to self promote their own point of view.

ReplyDeleteO.K. so the tag belongs to the State you do not own it. You are simply renting the right to operate your vehicle on a public roadway. I would say the state has the right to decline the plate on whatever grounds they choose. We are talking about New Jersey right. I would find it exteremly hard to believe that Christian values has any place in New Jerseys govt. The gambling meca of the east coast and home to more organized crime figures per capita then anywhere else in the U.S. You are like the rest of the people I have met from N.J. full of stink. What exit are you from anyway.
