Resume:
Newark – A Fairfax, Virginia man is in custody after Troopers recovered over three pounds of marijuana from his vehicle.
The incident occurred yesterday at 2:49 p.m. when two Troopers patrolling on southbound I-95, south of the toll plaza, observed a 2009 Honda Accord perform two abrupt lane changes without properly displaying its turn signal.
The Troopers stopped the vehicle and, upon approach, immediately smelled marijuana and observed the driver had small pieces of marijuana scattered on his lap. After the Troopers confronted the driver, Anthony Cespedes, 31, about the marijuana in plain view, Cespedes acknowledged there was more marijuana in the vehicle and turned over a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette and a small bottle containing marijuana.
Cespedes was then taken into custody. An ensuing search of his vehicle resulted in the recovery of several vacuumed-sealed bags containing marijuana, which were discovered in the trunk. The total weight of the marijuana was slightly more than three pounds. Also recovered was drug-dealing paraphernalia and over $6,000, which was seized.
Cespedes was transported to Troop 9 where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity and related charges. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $4,000 secured bail.
