SEARCH CONTINUES FOR SALISBURY SUSPECT IN ASSAULT ON POLICE

(SALISBURY, MD) – A combined police search effort is continuing in Wicomico County and throughout the Lower Shore area for a felony drug fugitive who used his pickup truck last night to assault police who were trying to arrest him.

The fugitive is identified as Edwin L. Fletcher, 31, whose last known address was in the 27000-block of Riverside Drive Extended, Salisbury, Md. He is described as an African American male, 6”2”, 160 lbs. Fletcher was already wanted on a warrant for a felony drug charge. Additional charges are pending in connection with his assault on police that occurred last night.

State, county and city police continued the search for Fletcher throughout the night. The search is being coordinated by the Maryland State Apprehension Team, a combined unit of police investigators skilled in locating fugitives. While the search is continuing in the Wicomico County area, police have notified law enforcement throughout the region to be on the lookout for Fletcher.

The Maryland state trooper and Wicomico County sheriff’s deputy injured during the attempted arrest of Fletcher last night were both treated and released from the hospital overnight. They will be on leave while recovering from their injuries.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. yesterday, a combined state, county and city team of police officers was searching for Fletcher in an attempt to serve the arrest warrant for the felony drug charge. Fletcher was observed in a parking lot off of Market Street in Salisbury in a rented Dodge Ram pickup.

When police converged on Fletcher’s vehicle, identifying themselves and ordering him to surrender, he rammed a state trooper’s vehicle head on and then drove up onto the car. In fear for the life of the trooper, police on the arrest team fired at the suspect, but there is still no indication the suspect was struck. The suspect fled the area in his truck, but the vehicle was found abandoned a short time later.

The investigation, led by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, is continuing. Assistance is being provided by the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, the Salisbury Police Department, the Maryland State Apprehension Team, and Maryland State Police from the Salisbury Barrack, Criminal Enforcement Division, and the Forensic Sciences Division.

  2. A bit off topic but I think the local churches need to come together and hold a nondenominational prayer service. This is getting out of control.

  3. 9:20 Oh, that will do a lot of good..... What we need is for the good citizens of Salisbury to be armed and start cleaning up our neighborhoods and streets of these thugs!

  6. I agree 9:28 but I also believe in the power of prayer. Shortly after the community came together in prayer, the Accomack arsonists were caught.

  7. Yes, to 9:20, 9:28, and 9:47. We all need to work together and not shoot down each others' ideas to create a safer community. The problem should be tackled from any and all angles to determine what's working best and then reinforce & beef up those successful efforts. Good citizens need to be able to protect themselves to avoid being a victim and to help prevent future crime. As a life long resident here it's sad to see the direction our city has gone. It's really bad here. No one has all the right answers but we can all come up with good ideas and push for implementation.

  9. YooHoo-Pagano and the others who couldn't wait to insert themselves in the Trayon Martin incident-where are you?
Time to show how much you all really care and are not just a bunch of attention cravers who jumped on the Martin bandwagon in an attempt to show off and gain attention.
I would expect at this moment you all are working the phones putting together some kind of rally/vigil so all can come together and put an end to the crime this area is becoming overwhelmed with.

  13. He's a career criminal. Look him up on judiciary. Of course he's even has child support/paternity issues as well. How in the hell is it, that there are so many dumb girls around??? This moron doesn't have a pot to take a leak in, a criminal record to boot and some imbecile girl makes a baby with him and then thinks she's going to get child support! These girls need to start using their heads! Where does she think he's going to get money to pay for the child? Is she so stupid that he comes across to her as employable?

  14. 7:44 They need to use their head rather than other parts of their body. THAT is the problem.

  15. Right 7:44 and 8:58. These types aren't "mothers." Nothing but baby machines. Anyone who brings a child into this world under those circumstances, is a child abuser. Child will live in poverty, won't amount to a productive citizen and will only keep the cycle of poverty alive.
