The suspect Edwin Lamont Fletcher is still at large.
Last night around 8:15 PM I received a call from a witness who was at the scene in Downtown Salisbury when all hell broke loose. They witnessed the truck ram the police vehicle and watch the flash from the guns going off after what they stated was around TEN shots being fired off.
The truck continued to keep going and left the parking lot. That's when I got the call, LIVE from the scene. There was no backup at the time, (other than the Officers on the scene). We were not sure if the one person on the ground was a suspect or a Police Officer but later learned it was an Officer who had been placed on a stretcher and taken to PRMC.
A short time later Police were all over the Camden area where they had found the suspects truck. I started receiving calls from homeowners saying the Police were searching their yards and garages looking for someone.
With snow on the ground and multiple K9 units arriving, the suspect has still yet to be located. The Salisbury Police are supposed to be holding a Press Conference this morning with updates but we have yet to receive that information directly. I have contacted Chief Duncan with a request for an invitation but as I had mentioned to you earlier this week, Mayor Ireton refuses to allow Chief Duncan to contact me.
One thing I can assure each and every one of you, the entire Eastern Shore was on Salisbury News last night as NO ONE had this news up until hours later. Regardless of our differences, Mayor Jim Ireton needs to grow up and recognize that Salisbury News is by far bigger than ANY local news outlet and that can no longer be denied. Mayor Ireton needs to recognize, (EVEN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY WISE) that the Eastern Shore residents depend on us to deliver Breaking News well ahead of the rest of the Media.
For the safety of others, Ireton needs to stop this game and become a professional at what he does. The fact that we have to rely on INSIDE information instead of direct updates is ridiculous. This is clearly Jim's way of punishing Salisbury News, yet who is he really punishing, YOU. Funny how we still get the information out well before anyone else without his help anyway.
10 shots were fired last night while Officers surrounded the vehicle, even on foot and not one hit the suspect. Thank God my witness, (or anyone else) wasn't shot by a stray bullet, is all I can say.
UPDATE: Chief Duncan recently stated in a DT's article, We also continually work to educate our public, to reduce victimization.
Really Chief, seriously?
Joe, at which profession should he become a professional? Teacher or part-time Mayor???
ReplyDeleteRegardless of our differences and in the benefit of the best interest of citizens of Wicomico County, Sheriff Lewis and Matt Maciarello respect the fact that Salisbury News is the "Go To" location for news and information, especially breaking news. THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS.
ReplyDeleteJim Ireton proves every day, he doesn't are about the best interest and welfare of the citizens of Salisbury.
It took HOURS before the DT's, WBOC & WMDT even touched on this matter. The suspect was LOOSE for HOURS and NONE of their followers had ANY idea they needed to lock their doors, pull out their personal weapons and PROTECT their Families.
A Professional Mayor, Police Chief and Department heads need to keep the public informed in whatever means necessary.
So will our elected officials EVER come clean and admit that we are under attack? At least our service men and women understand that they will be in the cross hairs....but the general public unknowingly are each day. Whether it be from the bad guys or our law enforcement folks trying to defend themselves! "We can't handle the truth"! That's a line from a damn movie and this is now very very real!
ReplyDeleteI should add, so you know. There have already been more hits this morning on Salisbury News than ALL of the residents that live in the City of Salisbury. Maybe THAT will give you a better idea of just how popular this Site is. It's only 8:20 AM people.
ReplyDeleteI no longer subscribe to the daily rag and depend on my news here. The mayor needs to get off his high horse and include you for our benefit. I didn't just cancel our subscription because of the lack of quality. I canceled because we could no longer afford the paper.
ReplyDeleteI swear it's awful that during day, night or whenever that you have to always keep doors locked in Salisbury. Ireton, you are a freaking idiot to not include Joe in on anything that goes on in Salisbury - how do you think everyone gets their news nowadays, it sure isn't via Daily Times, WBOC or WMDT.
ReplyDeleteI don't read this blog regularly but when something BIG happens in the area this is the first place I go. There is ALWAYS more info on here then on wboc, wmdt, etc. The mayor needs to recognize that, swallow his pride if he doesn't like you, and allow you to provide as much info as you can.
ReplyDeleteWhat would happen to a professional quarterback if he threw 10 passes to an open man in the end zone and missed the receiver each time. Enough said.
ReplyDelete8:53 First of all you do not know if he was hit at all or not. Second of all in Football Receiver is trying to catch the ball, in this case you are talking about a runaway truck with a passenger who at the time could be a victim, public area in the dark.
ReplyDelete"Chief Duncan recently stated in a DT's article, We also continually work to educate our public, to reduce victimization."
ReplyDeleteI think she's right. The fact is most victims become victims due to their own high risk lifestyle. If we can someway get these kids on another path which doesn't include drugs, hanging out with criminals, etc we would reduce the number of victims.
Ireton should go on TV and make a plea for the State and National Guard to come to Salisbury and do a clean sweep with local law enforcement - instead of getting his jollys on with a thug culture 'BURY bumper sticker.
ReplyDeleteWE NEED THE NATIONAL GUARD HERE!! Our local police are too small to handle the explosion and severity of the crime in this area.
9:18, My point is, she is NOT educating the public if she refuses to send us important information the public should be aware of.
ReplyDeleteLook, last night we could have easily warned the public by 8:30 PM that a suspect was ON THE LOOSE. The public could have far better protected themselves and look, who knows if a Family is being held up in their own home right now?????
We're not asking the Police Chief to give details other than to warn the public to be alert and careful.
Keep in mind, there's big push to get more people downtown. For what?! Target practice?! This is the reason the downtown area is dead, and, will never be revived!
ReplyDeleteWho wants to risk their life for a cup of coffee or a cigar?
They have to play it safe these days when a suspect is of a certain ethnic persuasion, remember now, if you say anything bad about Blacks, you're a "Racist" !
ReplyDeleteThe "ALL-AMERICAN City" has taken a nosedive under Barrie Tilghman and now Jim-boy.
ReplyDeleteon wboc this am, not even a mention of last night's shooting.
ReplyDeletepathetic is an understatement
Joe the Police Dept (SPD) is ran the same way they can have people shot and suspects on foot or in vehicles that have gotten away. They notify the boardering jurisdictions hours later. WTF IDIOTS. So when a police officer lays dead because you are inept or just plain lazy SPD it will be too late. Duncan this wnet on before you arrived so no one can blame you for this.
ReplyDeleteJoe I dont know if they are ashamed the suspect is on the run or they feel they want to be the agency that makes the arrest. Either way wake up SPD before you get someone killed. There are five other police agencies in this county that deserve better.
In the time the city gets out the crime occurred they suspects could be in Va. Beach, Baltimore, D.C. etc.... A/holes
I was outside when the shooting took place.I haven't read the post in it's entirety, but no one can pull a trigger that fast.Multiple weapons were firing which suggests another possibility.Hmmm.
ReplyDelete9:43, Now wait just a minute here.
ReplyDeleteListen to me carefully.
Go back to our original post on this matter because I was covering it LIVE, as it was going down.
It was a drug sting involving the State Police.
SPD and the WCSO were on the scene within minutes and my photo LIVE shows their presence.
There were NO delays and ALL Law Enforcement Agencies including SU Police were swarming Downtown and Camden almost immediately.
All I can say is thank-you Joe. I am a single woman working nights. Had I not seen this blog, I would have had no idea what was going on in my neighborhood (Camden). When I did get home at midnight, I was extremely aware of my surroundings and took appropriate action. Thanks for doing what you do!
ReplyDeleteIf Salisbury had released the info earlier maybe the public could have at least been helping in some way to locate the suspect, even if it was peeking out a window or making ourselves aware of the situation. I saw 4 LE heading south at a high rate of speed then they turned around at the Fruitland stop light. I told my friend in the car there had to be a shooting.
ReplyDeleteI think we are lacking BLANKET MEDIA COVERAGE of this issue. Everyone needs to know to be on high alert. JOE did a great job of getting the warning out to our friends and families ASAP. The other news outlets were severely late and lacking any valuable details. Someone else mentioned in a comment here that it wasn't even on the news this morning or at 10pm last night?( I don't watch the news so I don't know) But the main idea is that by the time other news stations finally reported, this guy could have been pretty far away. At this point he could be as far as OHIO or something! Good luck finding him now.
ReplyDeleteI also do worry that the police could not bring him down with multiple shots.
9:45 There were multiple officers on the scene, hence multiple weapons firing. But maybe they should take an extra half-second acquire the target in the sights. That bullet is FAST, you can't be in a panic-hurry in this situation.
Oh I get what you are saying now Joe. Get the word out to the public ASAP so as to avoid more potential victim. I agree with you on that point. It's happened before everyday in this country. Those running from cops will carjack an innocent person or burst into a home. It happens because as I'm sure is the case with this suspect, they don't have a pot to take a piss in so they don't have anything to lose if they commit more crimes in the process of fleeing.
ReplyDeleteWhat it all boils down to is politics and politicians who stick their noses where it doesn't belong and want everything scrubbed before info is released so things don't appear to be as bad as they are.
It was on Baltimore News At 11pm last night. A Friend posted on Facebook much earlier. I am from Salisbury and was Hoping to Move Back But Politics and Lack of Good paying jobs seems to Be The root of
ReplyDeleteSalisbury's Evil
Dirty Harry would have cut him in half with his .44 mag.
ReplyDeleteFor all those wondering how the cops didn't hit the suspect, try pointing a weapon at another person and pulling the trigger.... See how well you do.. It is not the stationary paper target that all you pistol experts are so adept at poking holes in...
ReplyDeleteHow did this guy get away Unreal I guess the only things state troopers are good at are writing tickets.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he jumped in the Wicomico river. Swam to the other side. Or maybe drowned trying.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Williams, you are one sick cookie.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to perps passenger? We were told there was somebody in the truck with him. Do we even know who it was?
ReplyDeleteEmergency services called us at 11:20 pm. Since 8:30? A little late? A neighbor called us at 9:15 an hour later...still too late. Use that disaster siren. Let people know if you hear it to get in & stay there.
