Oh Crap, Here We Go AGAIN!

Remember The Bennett Middle School project that got voted down and then Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman called for a special meeting and changed her mind. Well, it's about to happen again!

You know how the Council voted NO to raises for Sheriff Lewis, Rick Pollitt, the Orphan Court Judges and even the County Council.

Well, this past Tuesday the Council only had 5 members present and the proposed raises got a final NO. Right then and there, (because she wasn't happy) Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman vowed to bring it ALL back up again in the near future when they know they'll have ALL of the Council present so it can PASS.

Ladies & Gentlemen, there are NO Rules of Order with the County Council, meaning they can do just that. I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA! When something gets voted down, it's a done deal and that's how it should be.

For far too many years we have watched Council majorities vote down many projects I personally believe the City or County should have moved forward with but it is what it is. And as many of you know, we have seen many projects I believe the majority of citizens DIDN'T want passed but they got rubber stamped and went through against our wishes.

You have to take the good with the bad. NOT if you are on your way out though, like Mrs. Prettyman is. Mrs. Barkley, (one of the Orphan Court Judges) threw an absolute FIT Tuesday night. I mean, come on now, a 40% PAY RAISE for one day a month!

I'm telling you people, there better be a record turn out for the upcoming election because we must take back control, at least on a local level. We need representatives that will vote in Roberts Rules of Order so this kind of crap won't happen again.

Mrs. Prettyman, SHAME ON YOU.

  1. Stevie Prettyman you are an absolute detriment to this county. You know there is absolutely no way this should be brought back up again and voted on. Shame on you and I'll be glad when your term is over, you have been "playing games" with our money far too long.

  2. Your right Stevie doesn't care she's on her way out and probably on her way to being a Florida resident..to get out of paying ANY taxes in Maryland...

    ReplyDelete
  3. She's frequently been a RINO on this board - voting to raise taxes on the citizenry on more than one occasion.

Glad she's decided not to run again as we need someone elected by the citizens that will continue to represent their desires.

November can't get here soon enough!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hear, hear!!! Thank you Mr. Albero. Mrs. Prettyman is a lame duck and needs to fly back down to Florida and leave us alone in Maryland.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why can't the council decide to revisit something? Are you saying every law passed should never be changed? Are you saying a partial board vote is better than a full participation vote? Weren't you the one who wanted to change the residency requirements for Executive even tho they were already voted on? YOU can't have it both ways, just because you want it a certain way.

  6. She flips and flops so much that she has lost all credibility with not only the County Council members, but her constituents as well. I would not want to be her husband. Lord have mercy on his poor soul.

    ReplyDelete
  7. 10:54, I'm sure she wouldn't want you to be her husband even more.

  8. Shame on Stevie Prettyman.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!! Joe - if she keeps this type of behavior up, I believe I'm going to initiate a recall of her District.

    1. She's finished in November. Nobody in this county has the balls to run a recall campaign against anyone since Brenda Cox ran one against Barrie Tilghman. Get a grip.

      Delete
  9. Let's do the recall now! She needs to be gone.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 10:54 She is the same way with friends. Flip flop.

  11. No big deal. Boards/councils hold revotes all the time. Circumstances, available information, opinions change. What's the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I used to have a great deal of respect for her. Now she has gotten old and less appealing from a political standpoint and a physical standpoint .
She can be replaced by a moron.

  13. Fly on home to Florida Stevie, they are calling you. Get out of Maryland, sure don't need you here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 10:51, I said I'd like to "challenge" the 5 year rule and I still may. I never said I was going to run for County Executive.

Now, that being said. IF I lost and it got shot down, IT'S FINAL! I would accept the outcome, period. NOT go back to the Judge time and time again until I got my way.

You said, "YOU can't have it both ways, just because you want it a certain way." HELLO, that's exactly what I'm suggesting to Mrs. Prettyman.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How much more can we take??? We're on a truly fixed income and people like her are Killing us. Is there any way to stop this? Please help.

  16. Stevie is bragging on facebook about how she just bought a $1.3 million lot in Florida to build a new home on. She's moving and couldn't care less about WC any more.

  17. When I tried to get the excise tax approved, she was against me all the way. Now that I'm gone, she tries to tax everything. Beats me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 10:51 here. I never said you wanted to run; I said you wanted to change the rule. Challenge, change.... is there a difference? Revisiting a vote is slightly different than "time and time again." Me thinks you are just playing with words.

    ReplyDelete
  19. For the record, Orphans court meets once a week (as a rule)and sometimes more if the workload requires it. Once a month is incorrect information.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If we want qualified people to run for these offices, we have to be willing to give them a competitive salary. You get what you pay for.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 11:31, I guess it's all about who you talk to. I've been told by elected officials once a month. I DO NOT know who you are. I'll believe and or stand by my statement.

11:30, the only person playing with words here is YOU. By bringing it to court, it's a "challenge", not a demand of change.

The vote has already been revisited time and time again. It got shot down twice and now I believe you should live with it.

  22. 11:36, As I stated on another Post earlier. Here's the problem you have in Wicomico County.

Even if Ronald Reagan ran for Mayor in the last election, Jim Ireton would have won.

People are simply fed up. The Liberals have taken control of our electronic voting system and you'll only see Republicans in a position if the Liberals WANT you there.

As long as they control a majority, (no matter the risks) you will not see fair or honorable elections in this State.

Another prime example would be a simple look at Muir Boda. One election he's a Liberal. Another a Libertarian and now a Republican.

You never know who or what your getting. Look at Mike Brewington. A registered Republican who changed to a Democrat in the hope it would help him.

How many times have we heard locally the phrase, RINO?

Look at the Republican Central Committee and Sharee Sample Houghs. They didn't even put someone up to run against her.

Like I said, you can be Ronald Reagan and you'd lose here.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Joe, mdcourt.gov clearly states Orphans Court meets every Tuesday, 10:00 am until finished. Don't know what "elected officials" you are talking to, but they obviously don't know what they are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 11:48, If that is the case, I stand corrected. Not to take away from your information but does it really matter. If you had a one day a week job, (clearly Part Time) do you believe you have the strength to demand such a massive pay increase?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would look at the work they do and the other Orphans Courts in the state to determine the validity of such an increase. There is a good article in the Dispatch about this. If the job responsibilities have increased significantly, then I have no problem increasing the salary. Even your boy said they deserved it, but wouldn't separate them out from the other requests. No increase in several years, and no chance for an increase for another four? Fair? I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What kind of a comment is"I thought this was America" This is America. Legislation is reintroduced on every government level all the time. Geez. I understand you don't think these guys deserve a raise, but at least use a valid argument. By the way. Lewis is way OVER PAID. He should be fired for allowing crime to increase in the area. The very lease, his pay should commensurate with the product he has put out there. Which is poor at best.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Now thanks to her Mike Lewis will have to run for President and Rick Pollitt for VP.Thanks a lot Stevie!

    ReplyDelete
  28. 11:56, I never said they, (ANY OF THEM) shouldn't get raises.

What I have always said is, MAKE IT FAIR.

County employees got a 2% pay increase, give EVERYONE a 2% raise then.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe all of them deserve raises, however what I heard the council members say was that the economy was what was holding them back from approving the raises. I'am glad we have people on the council that are representing the taxpayers and not just looking to increase spending. Thank you Bob Culver, Joe Hollaway, and Gail Barkovitch this is why we elect people like you. Mrs Barkley you are a disgrace to sit and talk to the council as you did and Melissa Pollitt Bright if the pay is not enough don't run again.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Prettyman was a democrat before she ran for County Council she changed parties just to get elected in her district.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't agree with the raises.

However, the council can reconsider anything any time. And that's in Robert's Rules.

The bigger question is whether it's a real change of heart, whether there was new information, or whether there was a political reason behind it.

  33. What the council should enact and vote on is a fair way to give hourly pay increases. 1.7% for most the hourly except for the chosen few is how it goes now.All the 5 k, 7.5 k and 10 k raises that were given out last july was a hell of a slap in the face for alot of hourly employees. How would you like to bust your A$$ at the civic center in the food dept and your boss that makes 55k gets a 30K PLUS BONUS on your efforts. There is way to much gap is what county supervisors make between the people doing the work and in most cases the hourly employees are doing the supervisors work including theres.

  41. Stevie has always played with the house's money - not her own. Her husband's and now the county's. Without having her husband's money, she would never had been elected. It was just something she wanted, so she used money to get it. Remember she was going to donate her salary back? Did that ever happen? LOL, of course not, she is all about money. As far as bragging - it is almost impossible to have a conversation with her with her telling you how much something cost that she owns or plans to own. She is a has been - she has betrayed her district and the rest of the citizens of the County with her flip-flopping Rino ways. The only thing she cares about is feeling like she is in the "in" crowd with those in power. If she only realized how much they joke about her behind her back. She is being completely manipulated by them to get the votes they want. Stevie is easy to understand - give her a little flattery - no matter how fake - and she laps in=t up like a dog. Bottom line - her whole life is what is good for Stevie - not the county, its people or even her friends.

  42. Prettyman is the wife of a very rich man who decided to share his wealth. She is a miserable person and makes all those around her miserable unless they are stroking her for what they can get. Very, very sad. Never satisfied.

She always brags about her wealth and in the same breath she might even hint she is poor. The only thing that is poor is poor Bill for having to put up with her.

    ReplyDelete
  44. To be honest she is not coming back so it is best she make that vote now. The County Council is way under paid and they do a lot of work on their own time. Hopefully the new pay will go to 4 new Republicans who deserve to get elected. Please do everything in your power to vote for only good Republicans this next election.

The Republicans are qualified. The Democrats are nothing more than Community Organizers. Get the hint, wink, wink. Laura Mitchell, Earnie Davis, Ron Pagano and Josh hastings are pretty much jobless and useless.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Joe 11:15 you forgot to mention that Tom Taylor ran for County Executive as a Democrat against Rick Pollitt twice and now he is running as a Republican for the County Council. The Republican Central Committee welcomed Boda and Taylor with open arms when their red flags should have popped up automatically. This is scary as they might both be plants by the Democrats.

This is the dumbest comment I have read yet. Lewis is actually doing his job and a good one at that. He isn't at blame for crime. The criminals are at blame for crime and so is the courts for letting the criminals back on the streets.

  53. I find this very sad. I remember when Stevie really represented the people and what was best for them. It appears now she has fallen in line with the tax and spend crowd. Another reason for term limits. She stayed too long and all the positive things she did will be over shadowed by her recent behavior.

  54. This isn't a case of legislation being 'reintroduce', 'revisited', etc. It's a case of an unprofessional, who is incompetent and is too lazy to trot their butt back to to their duties. This is the whole problem with you people in Wic Co. You vote in unprofessional, incompete people, who aren't interested in doing their jobs, but are only interested in showing off because in their minds they think it is honorable to be an elected official.
The results are quite apparent. The county as a whole is an arm pit.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't be so sure about the money issue. According to mdlandrec they don't have the proverbial pot to take a leak in and recently borrowed a massive amount against the house they have owned for well over 10 yrs.
This is not how people who have money operate. This is though how people who want everyone to think they have money operate.

  56. I'm sure Stevie is reading every comment on here and has probably called Joe complaining. Kudos to Joe for posting these despite what I am sure is pressure not to.

With that said, Stevie is planning on moving full time to Florida so she doesn't really care what her legacy is - she won't be here to deal with it. Plus she is just vindictive enough to want to "get even" with the County for what she probably views as "turning" on her. She is like some others, she sees no fault in herself - it is always the other person's fault. She has truly worn out her welcome with dwindling support and few friends - all due to her self-serving ways. Now people, let's find a person of good character to replace her.

There is a big difference when that first vote was over 10 years ago. Now the voters don't want a county executive so I would say there is a big difference bubba.

  60. 9:09am Just looked at the Md Land Records page. What it looks like to me is she applied for a "line of credit" against her home. I've done something like that, too, when I needed a lot of money for a large purchase instead of cashing in my stocks & bonds. So, I'm not sure I'd say she doesn't have a pot to take a leak in.

  61. I see where Ron Pagano is running against Joe Holloway. Joe is the best councilman in Wicomico County. I doubt Pagano will get 25%

    ReplyDelete
  62. 3:27-I looked and it's a refinance plain and simple. I too have a line of credit I can get just on my signature for well into 7 figures. I do not have to use any of my properties for security. This is a case of having no assets besides the house which is the security instument.

  63. If Pagano gets more than 5%, its a rigged election.

I remember her coming into Waterman's campaigning when she ran the first time. She wasn't dressed like a candidate when she promised a breath of fresh air.

She definitely has not been an effective Councilwoman- just more of the same old self indulgence and patronage from the old boys's network
