A House Bill is sitting in Annapolis in which Norm Conway and Jim Mathias are sponsoring called HB-758.
This Bill, (out of nowhere) will have the State of Maryland giving a grant to, (get this) the Willards Lions Club for $55,000.00 towards renovations and so forth.
Ladies & Gentlemen, you need to cast your votes for Carl Anderton and Mike McDermott. I can assure you, this kind of crap will come to an immediate end and we can finally get the Eastern Shore and the State back on track.
No disrespect towards the Lions Club organization but come on people, we're in a depression here on the Shore, period.
Language Details of Bill: Authorizing the creation of a State Debt in the amount of $55,000, the proceeds to be used as a grant to The International Association of Lions Clubs for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, and capital equipping of the Willards Lions Club.
Doesn't seem like much until I looked and these two voted to bond out 17 million each of the past 7 years!!
ReplyDeleteOur property taxes pay bond debt, at this rate of borrowing our property taxes will have to actually double to pay the interest off and then principal back to the lenders.
You vote for them......I have to pay for their lack of ability to control spending. Thanks.
What has the Lions Club done for the community & residents of WIllards lately? From what I have gathered, not much. Seems to me like it's the Good Old Boys of Mathias and Conway helping out their Good Old Boy friends in Willards to help renovate their clubhouse for their get-togethers and to win their votes in this year's election.
ReplyDeleteFolks this is what Democrats do! Spend, spend, spend! We have people with no jobs and trying to survive and these idiots are up there trying to give money away! Nothing against the Lions Club but why would they even expect it in these hard times? Shame on the Lions Club and to Mathias an Conway I hope to hell you are voted out of office this time.
ReplyDeleteWell they just lost my vote!
ReplyDeleteIf the Lions Club is so important to them, then they need to pay for it themselves! Typical democrats-clueless until it comes to spending other people's money.
ReplyDeleteBoycott the Lion's Club here and now until this madness stops.
Didn't Conway dump a ton of money into that radio station at SU before the last election.
ReplyDeleteAnd this time a 120 million dollar library at SU....at least something thrives, Shame it's not us....
DeleteJust out of curiosity, have Mathias or Conway done anything in any way to help our region generate jobs and/or have they helped our existing businesses in any way?
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though they accomplished little to help the struggling residents of the eastern shore and are focusing their efforts to help people they favor.
Am I wrong? If so, please let me know.
When you haven't a good track record to run on you lower yourself into buying votes. The absurdity of it all that someone would pimp themselves out, for what they perceive to be the "honor" of an elected position. No wonder politicians in general aren't respected.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those libs you like to malign, but I see no reason for the state to be subsidizing the Lions Club.
ReplyDeleteLiberals buying liberal votes.
ReplyDeleteSimple as that.
They could spend that money much better by filling potholes or repaving a (small) section of road - creating jobs and flowing the money multiple times.
Instead they're giving it to an organization that will spread the word that Democrats gave us money - we need to vote for them!
9:40,
ReplyDeleteLibs malign themselves. Read this article.
I have a Ladies Red Hat Club that should have a clubhouse, too!
ReplyDeleteThese sexist men are discriminating against women!
Why don't they give my grandson's Little League team a clubhouse, too?
My duck, Donald, wants one, too! After all, his friend Mickey has one.
This is just ridiculous.
Shame on both of them for helping their buddies renovate their party house. $55,000 would be better well spent on helping the needy and homeless.
ReplyDelete9:53, NEEDY, HOMELESS, Wicomico County doesn't have needy and homeless. I know this to be a fact because you DON'T see them in the Daily Times, WBOC or WMDT so it can't be true!
ReplyDeleteThe local civic leaders are right. STOP spreading such bad information about Salisbury and Wicomico County, IT LOOKS BAD.
Don't tell the TRUTH!!!!
See, all fixed now.
If they want a new facility, or to renovate it, RAISE THE FUNDS YOURSELF! ... DO SOMETHING productive, and EARN IT.
ReplyDeleteIt figures. That club house is where they have their fundraisers.
ReplyDeletePublic money for a private club?
ReplyDelete10:02, And a NON PROFIT that does NOT pay taxes too!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust like SU's Library or PRMC. Well, at least PRMC provides jobs anyway.
It's apparentthat many of you do not have a clue as to what the Lions Clubs do in every town and city.
ReplyDelete10:10, I do not believe anyone has a problem with any Lions Club. I'm confident we all appreciate how ALL organizations of the sort Pay It Forward with money raised by donations.
ReplyDeleteHowever, we also see MANY of these organizations closing their doors because of the lack of financial support in this economy.
You are a NON PROFIT and have received millions of dollars in tax relief from the citizens.
Either you make it on your own because the community supports what you do or you close your doors, just like ANY other business that unfortunately hires people and pays taxes.
ENOUGH of the Bailouts from LIBERALS.
The Lions do good work but in NO way should they receive tax payers money. Lions are an international organization and have billions of dollars in the bank. Where does this stop, every town has a Lions club so will they all now go see the politicians and ask for money to build a meeting house?
ReplyDelete10:10 - Enlighten us.
ReplyDeleteWhat has the Lions Club done for the community/resdients of Willards to warrant a grant of a Whopping amount of $55,000?
Andy, I agree with your question. When is the last time the Lions Club of Willards DONATED $55,000.00????
ReplyDeleteI mean, is this good money after good money or good money after bad money.
Most Lions clubs meet in churches and restaurants so why does Willards need a building of their own? They could help other non profits that serve dinners if they would just rent their facilities.
ReplyDeleteLions Club is not a private club. Any of you can join. Any private club I know of wouldn't let most of you in to wash dished.
ReplyDeleteMost, if not all, of Norm's fundraising dinners are held at the Willards' Lions Club and have been for years. It's pay back time! Wonder if he has to "rent" the building at all!
ReplyDeleteYou got it!
DeleteJoe - even if they haven't contributed $55k worth of funds, what have they contributed...has it been at least $10k?
ReplyDeleteThats not the point. The point is this is borrowed money that our taxes will repay. If this is so important put it in the budget so we dont create new debt!! And pay interest
Deletelook at the Pittsville Lions Club too---Denver Moore secretly got the town to take over the building now the TAXPAYERS pay for all the maintenance. He uses it for his private birthday parties for his family, etc. Joe--you are a Pittsville taxpayer aren't you? Glad you can support this building--bet it did not come up for a public hearing or vote---same as we hear nothing and can get no information about all the missing money at town hall
ReplyDeleteIf the Lions is not a private club, what's the purpose of the signs that read MEMBERS ONLY? Further, will someone post the PUBLIC accomplishments of THIS Lions Club?
ReplyDeleteHope this is their last session in Annapolis and we elect Republicans to their seats this fall.
ReplyDeleteYou better watch out for that newcomer Josh Hastings who works for Jim Mathias's campaign. The self proclaimed Moderate is not a moderate and no where near it. He is just as liberal as Jim Mathias and his friends Jim Ireton and Chuck Cook. He won't be getting my vote.
ReplyDeleteYou people need to wake up and start voting for Republicans.
11:16 Josh Hastings is a fair guy and his own person who does not make decisions based on Mathias.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteLions Clubs in general have a positive image; long time project has been helping with vision (eye) problems. My late Dad was active in Lions back home.
That said, it is a pertinent question to ask, what has this particular Lions Club done to even justify a discussion about this type of funding?
It is a private organization and should depend on its upstanding citizen members for any expenses related to fixing or improving their clubhouse!!
Willard was the head rat in a movie. Looks like the 'rats have made a sneaky comeback in Willards!
Jim & Norm; you're on notice to clean up your act or find another P/T job paying 200K annualized!!
10:10-According to guidestar.org and their latest 990 filed they don't do much---
ReplyDeleteTotal assets-$588,863
Part III of form-Statement of Program Services Accomplishments reads as follows-
Building maintenance- $55,376
Contributions to various charitable and civic organizations-(a whooping) $2079
Provide eyeglasses, hearing aid, etc to families who cannot afford them-a big ZERO!
Contributions for community members for sickness, death expenses-Another big fat ZERO!
Other program services-ZERO as well.

ReplyDeleteGo here to the state's campaign finance page and look where one of the lion's club officers (Crawford rayne) been donating to.
It's obvious. Donate to me and I'll sponsor a bill for your pet project. What a bunch of slimeballs.

LOL 10:10! What's "apparent" is that "you do not have a clue."
Now go and read the 990 linked on an above comment.
Cold beer! If you don't maintain it, the beer gets warm. Does Conway look like someone that drinks warm beer? If you are a member of this club, our money is now yours. Use it we'll to keep the beer cold.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Democrat and I am voting for Carl Anderton. We cannot afford another term of this sort of insider giving away of tax money.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, why not establish a community grant and allow all community organizations to compete for it based on what they actually provide to the community. Maybe the Lions would win?
i hate to say this but i do not think the entire town of willards is worth 55k

Good try but we all know he is just like Jim Mathias and Sen. Joan Carter Conway. Birds of a Feather.
The smart ones will run far away from all Democrats this election including Mathias, Conway and Hastings.
6:40 -- You forgot Rick Pollitt, the worst of all.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time Mathias stopped in Wicomico Cty enroute to Ocean City? Is the goal to support Wicomico Cty or to be reelected in Annapolis.
ReplyDelete6:40 - Let's stick to the subject. Josh Hastings is not involved in any way with this.
