ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland House of Delegates has approved phasing in an increase in the state's minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 by 2017.
The House voted 89-46 for the measure on Friday.
The bill would increase the minimum wage to $8.20 in January. It would rise to $9.15 in January 2016 and $10.10 in January 2017.
The measure as amended by the House does not include an indexing for inflation that Gov. Martin O'Malley had supported for future years after 2017. The bill is a top priority of the Democratic governor this session.

ReplyDeleteGood for Ocean City condo owners who rent their units out in the summer bad for Ocean City hotel owners and workers. Summer of 2015 will be the beginning of the end for OC.
ReplyDeleteRun, take cover, the sky if falling!!!
ReplyDeleteAll will be well, just has it has been in the past with other wage hikes.
OC, end was a while ago, the place is a dump!
ReplyDelete8:30 Agree OC has become a dump however they still pack them in on summer weekends. The price increases that will come with the min wage increase will lead to fewer visitors which will lead to laying off workers.
ReplyDelete6:31 You must be to young to remember the stagflation of the 70's which was partially brought on by multiple large increases in the min wage. Nor do you remember what OC was like in the 70's.
This is totally iresponsible by these crooked democ-rats. Don't they know some businesses will increase their prices to the consumers and some will layoff workers because they will not be able to afford pay all of them $10/hr. ? It does nothing to boost economy, but it does boost more people on Welfare, more dependable on Government assistance and therefore more Democ-rat Controlled Voters. Hey, if its good for the.Crooked Party, hey we gotta do it, by any means neccesary.
