Judge Mimi Cooper issued a bench warrant after Mary Root, 81, of Havre de Grace, failed to appear in court after a Feb. 12 hearing.
Root's family said she had medical reasons for not showing up to court. She was arrested Tuesday at her home and was held without bond. She had a bail review hearing Wednesday.
"I was so saddened by this. My mother's 81 years old, has helped anybody and everybody and loves her animals. I don't see where there's a crime in that," said Vatina Gifford, Root's daughter.

I am sure there are plenty of great grandmothers in jail, this family is just trying to make it a big pity party. Bet there is a lot more to this story.
ReplyDeleteWhy should she be treated differently from anyone else just because she looks like a nice old lady? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. If you have medical reasons for not being able to come to court you need to let them know ahead of time so they can accommodate you.
